Did NASCAR forget to tell fans there were races at Daytona?

I guess they need to host a Jacksonville Jaguars or Miami Heat game in the infield to get Florida to show up.

So you're saying that the Jaguars actually sellout and that they don't use tarps to cover up completely empty sections?

Oh that's a nice picture from the fourth quarter of a god awful game... because New England fans have never filed out when they're losing a game. :sarcasm:

96% attendance for home games in a large stadium in the smallest market for a 2-14 team. That speaks for itself.

So if they were winning in that game instead of losing they would have magically taken all the tarps off and filled the seats? :rolleyes:

That forgets to mention how they practically have to bribe the fans to come. :D

Anyone remember how Jacksonville got the new franchise back in the 90's and the NFL told Baltimore to go build a museum when they were also in the bid.

How's that decision looking now! Best mistake the NFL ever made.

Go Ravens!

Maybe people CAN'T AFFORD IT ANYMORE....geesh...Florida residents aren't exactly rolling in money

Hey Andy, it's about TV money. Get it?

Daytona is a tragedy to watch live anyhow. The back stretch is so far away it might as well be MARS. the money people spend to goto the track at Daytona after $50 parking, is too much when held along side a 60 inch 1080 TV

I went to the Unlimited and the Nationwide race today. Pretty good ticket prices and I parked for free.

@FLRacingFan

Happy to hear you're okay man, I bet it was really scary in person. I've seen a lot of videos of it on youtube and what not and I wouldn't have wanted to be near that for sure.

@OP
Can't afford to go anymore...simple as that. I have to drive too far to see any race but one at Martinsville or Richmond, all of the tracks in my state (except one 3 hours south of me) aren't hosting cup races anymore. I wanna see cup cars at Rockingham again so badly...that track is brutal on tires and always makes for a great race.

Anyway it just costs too much for a hotel, they all jack up the rates. Gas is a big killer now, then food, booze, tickets for decent seats....it all adds up just to maybe get rained on all Sunday. Martinsville isn't so bad because I can be there in no time from my own home, but it always rains every Sunday for the Spring Martinsville race when I have tickets. Ive probably seen more Monday races there than ones run on Sunday. ;)

I also prefer to spend my money on local dirt tracks, or Ace speedway (short track) which are always fun to go to. I get to see a bunch of different classes of cars run and usually get two main events that are sometimes 25-75 laps depending on the series. What that on Saturday then the Cup race on Sunday. :)

I'm rambling, sorry I'm into my 3rd beer and looking forward to the 500! :)

I've always heard from people that the view at Daytona is horrible, but I don't get it. I went to Daytona in I think 2009 for the ARCA race and the Shootout. I could see the entire track no problem. The cars were far away, sure, but if you were following the action, it was no problem seeing who was who. My dad thought the same thing. Can't remember which section I was in, had top row somewhere. Are people just getting the cheap seats and complaining or did i just get lucky and get the best seats in the house ? There are ovals with far worse views, Indianapolis of course is the worst, Pocono is really bad (the way the grandstands wee set up, you cant see **** when the cars are on the front straightaway). I thought Daytona was great, i've been to most of the cup tracks on the schedule and Daytona was one of my favorites.

Was thinking about going this year to the ARCA/Sprint Unlimitedraces, however I just opted to see some World Of Outlaws Dirt late model racing in Ocala instead. One day at Datona was about $90, 3 days at Ocala was $90. Did support Daytona Monday and Tuesday for the Battle at the Beach though.

Boy, you said a mouthful there.

I can afford tickets, gas, and food, it's the hotels that eat my shorts.

LOL, Thats what cars are for! No way i'm paying $100 for a crappy motel. Wouldn't be able to make it to nearly as many races as I do if I payed that kind of money for rooms.
