Juan Montoya brought home a 22nd-place finish in his first visit to Las Vegas Motor Speedway last week after suffering front fender damage that slowed his car.
"It's a shame. The car was really fast [Sunday]," Montoya said. "When we went a lap down we were checking the 48 [Jimmie Johnson] and the M&M's car [David Gilliland] just got in the way. I had damage on my fender and from there a grille broke and we just went backwards from there and the car became undriveable.
"The car was good from the beginning. When you damage the fenders at a track like this you're done. We've just got to keep working on the cars and making them faster."
He dropped two places in the point standings to 22nd, 207 points behind leader Mark Martin.
This week Montoya goes south to Atlanta, where once again he will see a track for the first time. The fast speeds, however, may be closer to his liking thanks to his open-wheel background.
Montoya can be heard on Sirius Speedway (3-7 p.m. ET Mondays) with Dave Moody on Sirius channel 128, and NASCAR.COM will track Montoya's first full Cup season:
