I know who the driver that lost his temper for sure. I have a fair to middlin idea of the other driver involved, but not a certainty. Anyone for know for sure?

"I lost my temper one time with one of the drivers, and after the race was over, the driver confronted me and said, "What happened?"

I said, "Well, I just lost my temper."

He said, "Well, young man, I'm here to help you find it."

Buddy Baker is one dude that i wouldnt want to piss off

Darrell Waltrip is the young man that could not control his temper, according to his recount of this incident it was an "official" that told him "Im here to help you find it"

Thats from "The last lap" that I read Darrell's comments but never does he mention in that who the "official" was.

I was thinking ole DW might be one losing the temper.

DW was indeed the hot tempered young man.

While I have heard this story quite a few times, and in a couple of different versions, the second person has never been positively identified by DW anywhere I've seen.

Most often I have heard that it was Richard Petty.

Based on Kel's story, I do recall hearing at one point that it was none other than Big Bill France. But since for the most part I had heard it as another driver, I thought maybe that was in error.

I can envision either of the two making the statement accompanied by a rather strong hand on Jaws shoulder for emphasis.
