i know it is early in the year, but still what does everyone think right now

Who the heck is D. Other, I can't find him in the Nascar web site rankings, but if this Dave Other where to put together maybe 10-15 straight wins he could do it... B)

Just give the cup to Jimmie Johnson now...

This poll is... er, whats the term we use for opposite of good?

Anyway, it's too early to tell, Dale Jr, Jimmie Johnson and Gordo are going to have problems down the road, hell you've even skipped the other guys like Kevin Harvick, Ryan Newman, Elliott Sadler, Dale Jarrett and Kurt Busch, the guys who have just as good of a chance for the championship, especially with this new points system.

Hell, even Casey Mears could win it the way the year is going so far.

D. is the other choice and other is a different driver then i have put down.

Well, I picked Harvick to win it, so if it's not Brian or Schrader, it better be him!

I wish it would have been Tony but I gotta go with Jeff Gordon on this one.

I think Jeff Gordon is a man on a mission and he will be really hard to beat.

well........you know that I am going with my guy again JEFF GORDON.......3's a charm you know........ :D

I voted for the 4 time Champion also,Jeff hasn't went more than 2 years without winning a Championship since His first Championship in 1995,I'm going with tradition  :D

That's a heck of a good point you make there ;)

Besides, if he is going to win the 8 championships I think he has in him he needs to get going.

Seriously, I would like Jeff's chances if this were the old system. Jeff is poised to make a strong run like the old days where he would just make a boat race out of the season half way through. (for those who didn't get the reference, a 'boat race' is sort of a foregone conclusion as boats generally don't pass each other in a race).

Jeff could go on one of those runs this season and build up a 200-300 point lead and it wouldn't mean squat after 26 races. But, I still like his chances as the last 10 tracks are usually very good ones for Jeff. :)

I sure wish that NASCAR had put in a road course and a 2nd short track date over those final 10 race dates though, would have been more challenging for some drivers :D

I picked other. Mr. Other is going to blow all other drivers out of the water.

I'm going with Mr. Other too.......there ain't a single one of us here who can say with any authority that Mr. Other is not the most likely choice!! :D

But, I got to say something about the new points system. Championships that I've been seeing for all these years have been won in one of two ways. First, which is the most common way, the Champion builds a huge lead early on........then it's catch up for any contenders. In a fairly large percentage of those chases the leader merely "coasts". By "coasts" I mean they take no chances and sometimes will even give a win to someone else to avoid a bad points day........points racing is what most call that. And I've found those Championship runs rather boring (even when Dale Sr did it). The second way is for a team and driver to make great runs near the end of the season and overtake (or, at least, pull within a very realistic position of winning the Title). That happens occasionally. Tony Stewart's run a couple years ago comes to mind. And, I'm pretty sure most would call that exciting..........no one can start celebrating with 3, 4, or even 5 races left in the season. But, those Championship runs are very few and far between. It was a product of the points system.............a great system but it did have that one flaw. Way too many Champions were crowned way too soon before the end of the season. And before someone pipes in with some example of a neck and neck race all season long (Rusty Wallace/Dale Earnhardt or Mark Martin/Dale Earnhardt), I know those have taken place........and they still stir controversy because they were so good and exciting right up to the final lap of the final race!! But, those seasons are very, very rare.......almost non-existent. I don't know how this new system will work out in the long run.........I'm sure it'll be tweaked on in the seasons to come. But, I do think it will make "points racing" a thing of the past............and for that, alone, I'm more than willing to give it a chance. If you ain't proven yourself to be worthy of a Championship run by race 26 you don't deserve to in the running. Sort of "it's time to let the 'big dogs' run and sit back and think of next year and how you would get yourself in that run".

The thing is if this new "race for the Championship" continues, then I'm sure that teh media and a lot of fans will make Us all aware of which driver would've won the Cup under the old 36 race points system, then in most years there'll be the Champion crowned by NASCAR under the current system,I'm sure there will be some bitter drivers and fans of those drivers that would've won under the old system,JMO

Sheeeeesch!!!!! Prolly for the first time ever, all the answers
here are good ones.
I too, though, just gotta be a weak link and go with my fav, Jeff Gordon.
My goodness, to be 40 years younger!!!!! Sigh...................................................................

If people do gripe about who would've won under the under the old point system, I don't believe it would be valid because the new point system will dictate what decisions drivers/teams make. Therefore, the outcome of races and hence the championship, would be totally different.

I do think that this point system has the potential to give us the most exciting championship race that been seen in a long, long time.

I hope that Ur right Patrick9999,but IMHO most Everyone will still be talking about the driver that "should've" been Champion that year. ;) We'll see at end of season what the reactions of teams/drivers/fans are. ;)
I still think that it's unfair not to have a road course among those final 10 races, that's some great diversity that's been taken away in the actual run for the Championship.
I really think that NASCAR should have awarded bigger gaps in points among the Cup contenders after race #26 also, say a driver has a 250 point lead over 2nd place, then after points are reset He/She only has a 5 point lead is rediculous IMHO,should be at least a 50 point advantage IMHO,perhaps about 20 point difference among 2nd through 10th+ position IMO. ;) Might not be as close a Championship race, but the points leader should have some extra advantage entering the "race for the Championship" IMHO.

You speak as though that doesn't happen now!! :D I've sure heard a lot of that over the years.........heard it last year, the year before, in the 90's, in the 80's.........etc.!! :) But you have to listen to just who is saying it............sort of puts a perspective on it!! :D

That'll be the sad part of this new points system, most years there will be a different Champion crowned by NASCAR than the driver that would've won under the old system, there'll always be a duality to the Title winner, even though the drivers will take a different approach towards chasing the Championship starting this season, the Title will seem just a little tarnished IMHO ;) ;)

Is that enough proper respect for U Mr. whizzer?Let Me know as I'd hate to upset Anyone here :D
