Who worked the most and who worked the least to get into the cup &amp

All time I'd say Tiny Lund worked hardest to get in his ride. Never could believe he would fit through the windows even in the bigger cars of the 60's.

Of current drivers Jimmy Spencer probably has to work the hardest, though Mikey may not be far behind with his height.

I would guess either John Andretti or Mark Martin has to work the least to get in their rides, though quite a few of the drivers seem to have no trouble.

Bill Elliott is quite tall as well, plus he's advancing in age so maybe he struggles a bit to get in his ride.

Hard Scrabble you nailed it the perfect answer to a purely subjective question.

Chuck Trickle here at the Vegas shorite is makes Jimmy Spencer look like a little guy, while Kyle Busch is somewhere between Andretti and Martin.

Current regular Cup drivers? Martin and Spencer.

Buckshot was a gymnast, he had a simple time I'm sure.

Of course, now he's developing land in Georgia.

Is that really the question. Who is the biggest and smallest people are and who in and out of a race car? I misunderstood then because i thought Smack 500 meant who had the hardest time getting into winston cup and the least, and who has the hardest time of actually keeping his ride.

I agree with NewmanFan. Obviously Jr hasn't had to work very hard to get into a cup ride. While he is a decent racer, he is still not there yet, in the area of contending for a championship. Since I haven't been watching NASCAR that long I don't know who has worked the hardest to keep the ride.

This question is nothing but bait.

HS, I don't know where you get that Mark Martin worked less for his ride. He had one, lost it due to acting like a jerk, struggled back, and has, in his own words, landed in heaven. But he changed his entire life philosophy to get there. That to me doesn't sound easy.

To swallow the bait, I'll say Junior, Dale Jarrett, and Jimmie Johnson have had the easiest roads. Carl Long, to me, has worked more for less than anyone out there.

Ill agree with Tn-Ward-Fan on part of that. I think Jr. has worked the least, im not saying that he cant drive so dont start crying Jr. fans-I have to disagree with you Ward-Fan for the first time in a while, but Dale Jarrett struggled for a while to get into Winston Cup. I saw something a few months ago about him and Andy Petree about when they got started. I know your not saying that he was given everything but Im sure most of it was because of his name.---Jarrett.

Come on people.......is sarcasm so over your heads?

The question was meant to start just such an idiotic and pointless debate about JR, Jarrett, Gordon etc......those who have had it easy.

As I stated before, any answer posted here is purely subjective. We all have favorites that we will defend (sometimes wrongly) to the end of the earth and back.

I guess you are right but i think the first couple of posts were taking the thread a different route. And I just understood it as if we were talking about who has had what given to them and yes you are right about the Jr. Jarrett and Gordon thing so Ill leave it at that

I'd have to go with Jr. on this one. He's pretty much been spoon fed his whole career up to this point. We'll see how far he can take it from here.

Yeah you are right Shiloh, Newman didnt work a whole hellavu lot to get to Cup. And hes not a 2-time Busch Series champ like Jr. but his name isnt Earnhardt either. But I would be willing to compare rookie seasons with you. Even to Gordons and even to Jarretts.

I think newman worked pretty hard to get to cup. He has an car engineering degree from purdue. So that makes it what 4-5 years of schooling so he can understand how to work on the card.

If you poeple think dale jr didn't work for his ride you are crazy. Granted he had a great oportunity being the son of the greatest driver, but Dale Sr. did not give ANYBODY a free ride.

Some people believe that Dale just handed the keys to Jr......you'll never change their minds.

Guys that didn't have to work too hard to get there ride in Nascar = Richard Petty,Kyle Petty, Jeff Gordan and Dale Jr.,bobby labonte, Kenny Wallace

Guys that did work hard to get a ride in nascar = Rusty Wallace, Mark Martin, Bill Elliott, Dale Earnhardt, Tony Stewart, Johnny Benson, Ricky Craven, David Pearson, Cale Yarborough!

Bobby had to own his own team in the Busch series before he ever got a shot at cup. He had to win a Busch championship before he got to cup. Jeff Gordon had to screw over Bill Davis or he never would have gotten that ride. Bobby hasn't had anything handed to him.

I'm not trying to slam Bobby. I really think that he is one of the guys that appreciates the opportunities that he had.

But the fact remains that he had family in the business. Good old Texas Terry and also a dad that was heavily involved in the business. I am not 100% sure but I do think that Bobby's dad owned his busch team!

I'm also glad to see that Bobby is trying to help kids get involved with the sport. He is currently trying to get everything together to build a Midget track in Concord NC right next to the Concord Motor Speedway! Way to go Bobby!

I did not like old Jeffy Gordon leaving Ford and Bill Davis after they brought him in off the street to nascar racing. I haven't liked him since. Jeff went for the big money with Hendrick. Maybe it is a good thing that Brooke will get half! :D

Darrell Waltrip also worked his way into cup. And the hardest worker of them all Alan Kulwicki

very true Newmanfan! I do think that Ryan going to college was a big step in his winston cup career! Racing and going to school for engineering was a feat in itself!

Lucky for Ryan he slipped into the Garage at Daytona and met Roger Penske :)

I'm sure Bobby had some funding help for his Busch team. He's definately made the best of the opportunites he's had.

:D True follow the 18 fan!

I can't argue much because I am into the same business as my family is too!!!!!!!!!!

LMAO! Then you must hate half the drivers out there for switching teams! Read up on Jarrett and let us know where you stand:D

Only one driver in winston cup that I really don't like and I think You know who that is!!!

I actually say some good things about Jeffy Boy once in a while !

:D

You find that absurd, yet you find nothing wrong with saying Newman didn't work hard to get to WC.

Hyp...hyp...hypo...hypoc...HYPOCRITE!

He also holds the all-time record for the fastest one-mile speed qualifying time for midget cars. By reaching a speed of 139.20 m.p.h. at Pike's Peak International Raceway outside of Denver, Newman broke the long-standing record of 137 m.p.h. set in the 1970s.

That has nothing to do with being a hypocrite. Newman walked in at the right time and Penske happened to be looking in the right direction and noticed him. And having a vet. driver like Rusty Wallace next to his side didn't hurt either.

I can throw up some stats about Steve Park too. He was pretty good in the Mid-Atlantic series and the Busch. he got lucky and happened to catch Dale's eye and got a ride in the Cup.

The same with Jeff Gordon. That guy has been racing since he was three years old. He's won just about every series championship that he has raced in. Something that a lot of drivers "who are a breath of fresh air" can't say.

And by the way, I never said Newman didn't work hard. That was Shiloh. Jump his case.

Newman fan, Interpreted the question same as you...I know recently Mikey worked hard since last year he was on the verge of losing his ride with DEI and now look what he did with it this year.

Fergy ?

Jeffy was lucky to have a daddy that would pay his way into racing. Not everyone has the $$$$$$$$ to buy there kids race cars at age 3 and all the way up to buying sprint cars at age 14! If Jeffy paid for all this on his own I would really like to see the proof?????????

I guess if he had a job at three years of age, he could have.

Just like someone said at the begining of this thread.....this is a baited question.

Tony Stewart's father bought him his first car.

I don't know many 3 year olds with enough income to buy a car.

Fergy

It is definately a baited question but I think also a question of work ethic and those that have and those that don't and where they go with what they have!!!!!

Its the American way "The American Dream"

Most every driver in Cup was given a great opportunity at one point - and they made the best of it. Moreover, there's many drivers out there I sure who received similar opportunities and squandered them.
