3x!
Two races until the chase starts.
Five three time winners. Two with two, and five with one apiece.
That leaves 4 spots for drivers to make it on points.. at this point we are guaranteed to have at least two drivers make the chase on points, and every time a past 2014 winners takes the checkers guarantess another in on points.... but who?
I think it's safe to say Matt Kenseth is in, sitting 5th in points 117 points to the good of 16th, he pretty much just needs to not wreck next week and he should be in.
So that leaves Newman, Bowyer, Biffle, Larson, Kahne, Dillon, Menard, McMurray, Ambrose and Vickers all within reach.
The farthest back right now is Vickers, and with Denny Hamlin, Kurt Busch, AJ Allmendinger and Aric Almirola behind all of these drivers in points they get an automatic leap frog after Richmond.
Realistically, I personally count Vickers and Ambrose out.
With McMurray run last week he is beginning to look like he can make a late charge... but is it too little too late?
Paul Menard and Austin Dillon are also sitting in a good spot, but I don't see them pulling it off against the drivers and teams ahead of them.
Kasey Kahne... well... I duno, what can I say about Kasey? Realistically he is probably the most likely driver to be able to turn around and grab a win out of nowhere... but I doubt it.
Then you've got Larson, the boy wonder, who very well could make the chase in his rookie season if he can just avoid some trouble for the next two races. (and pray that some of these other guys run into some trouble)
Ahead of Larson by 26 points sits Greg Biffle, then you got Bowyer and Newman all within 21 points of each other.
....but then again, any of these guys could go sneak in a win in the next two weeks virtually locking themselves in the chase immediately.
IMO the ones who will make the chase on points will be
Kenseth
Newman
Bowyer
Biffle
Which is how it would look if they started today. I just dont see these other guys making up that much of a difference in just two events.. but stranger things have happened. Although I do believe once in the chase they won't get far against the likes of Penske and HMS.
So what do you guys think? Which winless drivers will make the chase in 2014? and which will be left to watch from the sidelines? (so to speak)
