1. -- Matt Kenseth Leader
2. -- Kevin Harvick -259
3. -- Dale Earnhardt Jr. -325
4. - Ryan Newman -364
5. - Jimmie Johnson -380
6. -- Jeff Gordon -420
7. -- Bobby Labonte -637
8. - Tony Stewart -666
9. - Kurt Busch -707
10. -- Terry Labonte

Hey, I like the old guys....but take a look at the current top 10 in points.

This Tony Fabrizio guy needs to be sent to Davy Jones's Locker

i just dont see how you can base 03' on 04' when the rules are going to be completely different.

I am going to stick with my guns and say the 04 rules will be like 98' when the 6 and 24 won all the races.

Tony Stewart of course...oh and Ryan Newman, Dale Jr., and Brian Vickers (long shot)

2004.. who's the favorite? Well, I'm going with either Jr or Harvick.

I can understand vickers but jr. and ryan longshots? come on now

I'm not even going to make a prediction. Consider where some of the current drivers finished in points last year.

1. -- Matt Kenseth - 8th
2. -- Dale Earnhardt Jr. - 11th
3. - Jimmie Johnson -380 - 5th
4. -- Jeff Gordon -420 - 4th
5. - Ryan Newman -364 - 6th
6. -- Kevin Harvick - 21st
8. - Tony Stewart - 1st
7. -- Bobby Labonte - 16th
9. - Kurt Busch - 4th
10. -- Bill Elliott - 13th
11. -- Terry Labonte - 24th

and as for the rest of the 2002 top 10:

Mark Martin - from 2nd to 17th
Rusty Wallace - from 7th to 15th
Dale Jarrett - from 9th to 25th
Ricky Rudd - from 10th to 21st

In other words, the only predictable thing about the Cup points is that they are, for the most mart, unpredictable.

I think Vickers will probably flop like Atwood did. Ya know what happens to all these 19 year olds who think theyre the rulers of the world and finally when they come to the Elite Winston (or in this case Nextel) Cup, then BAM ! They get a taste of real life then they get run over.

As of right now, there is no clear favorite for the Nextel Cup in 2004, but I'll say you need to watch Dale Earnhardt Jr, Jeff Gordon, Matt Kenseth, Kevin Harvick, Jimmie Johnson and Ryan Newman. For now, anyone whos in the top 10 this year

I think biffle has a decent outside shot, especially with the new rules. BTW, if harvick wins, he needs to defeat a lot of odds. He is such a HACK!!!

Well, we've proven that a hack is not a food. Hmm, a lot of thinking on the Jedi Council will this matter require.

Biffle a shot at the top 10? Arright, maybe an outside shot, him and Doug Richert have been mixing in pretty well. He's a good driver, but I doubt Roush will focus the emphasis on his team and instead Roush will put it all in the 17 and 97, and I fear that will hinder Biffle's progression.

My very early picks for 2004 top 5 are

1. Jeff Gordon
2. Ryan Newman
3. Tony Stewart
4. Matt Kenseth
5. Kurt Busch

Im going to go out on a limb and say Jamie McMurray will be a championship contender next season. He is in the top 8 I believe in points scored during the second half of the season, him and Wingo are getting experience together, and Ganassi has championship caliber equipment.

Tony Stewart
Jeff Gordon
Ryan Newman
Jimmie Johnson
Robby Gordon
Greg Biffle
Jamie McMurry
Kevin Harvick
Brian Vickers
Kenny Schrader

I think Bobby may have something to say about your list, Mr. Eagle. I'm banking on it, as a matter of fact. <_<

i like your suggestion of mcmurray. when you think about it, i dont even want to try and guess who will win next year because there are too many possiblilities. You know Jr, Stewart, and Gordon will be there. Newman and Harvick will have a realistic shot if they can keep from finishing at the bottom of a few races. Kenseth will likely be in the running if he has another start like he did this year. And i wouldnt count out mcmurray, busch, and jimmey johnson. that is 8 drivers right there. with others that have outside shots like martin, biffle, rusty, and labonte.

Happy, I would certainly like to know what you are basing this opinion on. I have seen/read/heard several interviews with Brian Vickers. This kid is in no way like Casey Atwood. He has his priorities in the right places and therefore would like for you to explain to me just how you feel he will be a flop.

1. The competition is too stiff. I disagree with anyone who says he'll win the 2004 championship or win 10 races in his first season and do incredible things in a racecar like shooting thunderbolts out of his tailpipe. He only has a year and a half in a Busch car and now he's being tabbed for god-like status.

2. Look at the other rookies who will enter Cup in 2004. What about Scott Riggs who in his share of time in the Busch Series has amassed a decent amount of wins and is right now leading the point standings, look at Scott Wimmer who was on a hot streak before the 2002 season closed out or how about Kasey Kahne or Bobby Hamilton Jr.? The media is in a sense overhyping Vickers IMO.

I agree with ya, the competition is just too hard these days for any one man let alone a rookie. But I do predict good things for him in the years to come.

All drivers were once rookies, now look at them. Yeah some fall and some go on to being the best, so give him time.

Brian Vickers will be in some top-notch equipment though, with very strong engines ;)

There was a rookie that finished 2nd in the point standings though, albeit,a long time ago in this Series ;)
