Why did the 11 come back on the track?

Does anyone know

What was it that happened to his car??? I never heard, maybe I was out of the TV room if and when it was announced.
Betsy:rolleyes:

It's either NASCAR favoritism for the good teams/sponsors, or what my original thought was: that it wasn't really him failing to make speed, but rather a mechanical failure that made his car die, which probably doesn't fall under the "not making minimum speed" rule.

It was something about the fuel pump, the line, or the cable that runs the pump.

Never really got a clear answer.

whatever it was i can't recall another instance where it took so long to find the problem.

If you go back out and are not up to speed you get black flagged. That's your one chance.
I don't believe he made it back around to get the black flag, he broke [again]almost as soon as he came out and was pushed in again from the back stretch. No chance for Na$car to flag him.
That's my story and I'm sticking to it. :D

Hamlin's No. 11 Camry, which is now only a point from falling outside the top 12, finished behind Busch in 38th place, and crew chief Mike Ford said the fuel pump cable breaking was unacceptable.

"It's not the first time we've had fuel issues across all three cars," he said. "It's just plain unacceptable and it should never happen. We had a fuel pump lock up and that broke a couple of other pieces in the system. It's one of those things that are difficult to troubleshoot in a short amount of time. What started it was having the fuel pump lock up. It was just a parts failure."

I can't remember any of the other Toy's having this much of a problem. It sure has plagued Denny...

Slow, sometimes it takes a while to find a problem on a racecar cause it could me a number of things. You can't just plug a code reader up like a street car and see what the problem is.

The second time out he was getting up to speed and something else broke that was caused by the original part failing. They said after they found the first problem that it fired up and was fine but did not know another part having to do with the original had failed as well until he was on the track getting up to speed.

The speed rule does only apply to damaged cars (this week anyway). Hamlin never got a chance to get to maximum speed the first two times.

We ran an electric pump wired thru a relay tied into the oil pressure sending unit. No oil pressure, no juice to the pump. Simple and fool proof.
Too complicated I guess for the minds at Na$car.:sarcasm:
