Curiousity compels (like the proverbial cat that got killed then found there were eight more lives) that I ask why people use a $ sign when they post and use the acronym NASCAR, writing it as such, NA$CAR.

Why?? There are no less than five posters using this that have been seen within the past few days alone and more if a better search were done.

:D

It's very simple, Whizzer. $ = money, and NA$CAR likes it rolling in and doesn't like to spend the money they make, i.e. travelling safety teams, etc.... B)

They don't like to spend money????

Didn't they just build a big R&D center to help with saftey research? WHat abotu all the SAFER wall and crash testing they been doing! They are spending tons or money!
The NA$CAR thing started when nascar.com started to make people pay for there features. That has nothing to do with NASCAR that is Ted Turnners company and they are making the nascar.com money!

I did not mean for that to sound rude! If it did I am sorry!

Why whiz......

It is so internet chic, so fashionable.

This is my opinion because for the much of the time I see it used when the issue being discussed has nothing to do with anybody's money.

NA$CAR = Greed

I use it because the American openwheel series' give you FREE live timing and scoring for all practice sessions and races.

then redrock, that should read na$car.com.

I didn't take it as you being rude. I simply excused myself for making an error by saying that Nascar didn't like to spend money.

Whizzer, I tend to agree with Majx. I also use the term NA$CA$H.
Ticket prices are outrageous and fewer fans can now afford to go to the tracks.
PB, I don't think NA$CAR is paying for the SAFER WALLS...I think it's the track owners.

They are paying for the testing of the safer walls in Nebraska!

But the individual tracks will be responsible for the cost of installing them at their facility.

Don't want to start a battle here, but why isn't NA$CA$H paying for testing of SAFER WALLS at tracks already on the circuit?

I've seen that they use NA$CAR at other msg boards also. It's not limited to this board.

i would use it because the price of tickets keep goin up at michigan, for really no reason, they have made some improvements there however, but nothing they couldnt have afforded

Was it this year or last year they went up at Michigan? Can't remember, but it was the first time since about '96 or '97 that they did...& mine only went from $95 to $99. I'm in the newer section between turn 4 and the center grandstand. Those were $35 dollar bleachers when I first started going to Michigan. I'll pay a little more to seat in those seats than the bleachers they had. Along with the increase in the Cup tickets...they did lower the Busch prices in order to attract more folks to come out for that race.

they raised it $5 i think it was this year, wasnt aware they lowered the price for busch, not really complaining about the raise in price cause no matter what i would still go

Beats the alternative for me...Chicagoland! :)

Actually todd-24, we have it pretty good at Michigan. Tickets at Darlington, Talladega, Atlanta & Lowe's will run from $105 to $120 for comparable seating to where I sit.

Michigan's traffic is no worse than Chicagoland's...the difference is that there is 170,000 people at Michigan and only 75,000 at Chicagoland.

We can bring in coolers to Michigan and are not forced to buy a ticket for all the races at Michigan.

i really enjoy goin to michigan, my seats i have this weekend are $110 in turn 3, if i get them, hold up at customs or something, starting to get nervous thinking they wont get here

All responses were interesting and it was especially noteworty there was not ONE good reason to use the dollar sign ($) in the word NASCAR.

Greed is a misnomer, inappropriately applied. NASCAR is not greedy. It is a corporation making a profit. NASCAR is spending big money on safety and research. There should be no question they are working on resolving the emergency response time and this would include the half-azzed
"gentleman's agreement" of not racing back to the caution.
Keep an eye on this one as it is pretty positive NASCAR will make a change of some sort in the near future.

Safety improvments are the sole responsibilty of the facility not NASCAR. NASCAR mandates that required measures be taken and the operators have the option of complying or not. Non-compliance means the event could be cancelled.

By comparison, it is no more greedy than DEI for fighting the town of Kannapolis over the way the Dale Earnhardt Memorial Park in Kannapolis, NC is promoted. Thier reason is simple. They are trying to keep the value of Dale Earnhardt collectibles as high as possible. If NASCAR is greedy, so is DE Motor$port$ and Action Figure$.

Consider how much profit the auto manufacturers must have built into the purchase price of a new vehicle if they can offer six year, interest free loans and rebates.
Do you place a $ in thier signature?? Like writing Chevrolet$, Chry$ler$ and Ford$.

Ticket prices do not come under the umbrella of NASCAR. The guilty party of rising ticket prices is the track where the event is held. If free admission is not available, again, it is the track ownership. If a track is owned by ISC, that is not NASCAR.
ISC, is a separate corporation, stock holder controlled. Although the France Family has a controlling interest, it has is not controlled by NASCAR.

All the complaints posted here could be debated, but not one was valid.
Just my thoughts and the only one with sound logic was posted by Mr (or Ms.) Hardscrabble. It is the "chic" thing to do.

Just a teaser for the fans. :salute:
