Why is nascar getting lame?

I don't see anything different in this open garage --- the garages have always been open. Teams have always been on top of each other at the tracks.
I meant the part in the article where nascar lets the other teams know what the winning car a couple of weeks earlier was using. Like the shock example they gave. I like the openness but let the teams have some kind of secret for a while, the others will eventually figure it out on their own, no need for nascar to display it to everyone.

Hmmm... shocks? I know there is a lot more to a Cup car than shocks but that is a horrible example. If a shock is assembled it does absolutely no good at all for a competitor to look at it. Doesn't matter at all what the outside looks like, it's what is inside that matters.

The video doesn't say, but even IF the shocks were taken apart and laying on the bench in pieces, that only tells a shock engineer so much. There are a bunch of very precise measurements that would have to be taken in order to even think about "copying" that shock.

Do teams copy others? Sure. But there is only so much you can learn by looking at parts and all the top teams know that. So guess what? They will do everything they can to hide their "secrets."

I don't see this as a huge issue.

And for what it's worth chromehorn, I doubt many members here would consider NASCAR as "lame."

“It’s almost like flipping an hour glass,” Gustafson said. “One team will have something, run it, then the rest of the garage will have it and run it, then somebody will take it one step further, then NASCAR will write a rule about it. That’s the way it goes.”

I liked the article but I'd be willing to bet there are plenty of things that some organizations have figured out that others are playing catch up on. As open as things are advantages are still gained. Not to the point that they once were and that's OK by me. Could you imagine what this sport would be if they let everything be done behind closed doors? I'd hate to watch the Hendrick boys win week after week after week. That would be the outcome. That would be lame.

I don't like the fact that nascar shares everything eventually between teams.

Naaa, beleive me there's enough interaction between crew members of different teams that ALOT lot more is learned over a cold one than you'll ever learn looking at a part laying on the bench.
It's not so much what you run as how you get the entire package to work together anyway!

Do y';all think that JGR would have shared their heavy oil pans with everyone had they not been caught? I think NOT!!
