ESPN college basketball analyst Dick Vitale introduced the top 10 drivers as part of pre-race festivities. The energetic 71-year-old met with fans Saturday morning and also stopped by the media center.
Vitale admitted to not being a NASCAR expert, but he said he is impressed with the passion within the sport.
He also was impressed with Texas Motor Speedway, which he was visiting for the first time.
"It's awesome," he said. "If I was doing it in Vitalies, 'Awesome, baby, with a capital A!' It blew me away. The size -- the incredible size."
Among Vitale's college basketball offerings: Texas will be in the hunt for the Big 12 title, and he's high on freshman guard Cory Joseph. "He's going to be sensational."

I bet the real reason is Coach K had a connecting flight in Dallas and Vitale just lost sight of him and wandered towards the track.

As much as people on here complain about the tv broadcasts of the races, can you imagine if vitale called the races...

I loved Dick Vitale in 2006-2007 when my beloved SIU Salukis where the darlings of the college basketball world and Dick Vitale basically told the Billy Packers of the world to go **** themselves. But after that he was right back to his old self.
