I'm hoping Dodge will get back in 2014 and run like they use to in the 60's and 70's..I'll bet they can and will........They are making big money this year better with more profit than GM or Ford according to what I've heard. They need back in so I can once again enjoy watching racing.....Are there any Dodge fans around this forum??????

Sergio the Italian may take that to mean leaving nascar was good for business, rather than the championship.

Sergio is a serious racing fan and organizer, he will get it done.....They already have the Charger ready for copy

Sadly not :p
The chevy's need to be wiped out like they were back in the early 70's.......Of course Helton and Brian would have a whiskey fit and let them run Traction control and possible 400 ci engines.........:)

Love to see it. Ain't gonna happen. It's too late in the year. Keep the faith and hope for 2015. Like they say every Passover, "Next year, in Daytona!" :D

It really makes me sad they didn't run the Gen6 charger. Out of all the gen6 bodies that looked the best. Isn't dodge going to redesign both the Challenger and Charger in 2015? If so that might put a dent in what they can run in Nascar .

I'd also love to see them back. The more manufacturers the better as far as I'm concerned. It's really unfortunate what happened to Dodge but I'm sure eventually they'll be back. I'm hopeful it's not as long a hiatus as it was last time they left.

From what I understand the biggest stumbling block is not having the engine building infrastructure in place. Penske was building them for Dodge and some other teams had before them as well. Whatever the Penske guys were doing sure was working near the end, those engines had amazing fuel mileage and was a huge reason why Brad was able to win the championship.

Unless Dodge really steps up to the plate with some cash then it's going to be tough. From what I heard Penske wasn't going to get a long term commitment from them and that's a main reason why they left to Ford, other than money of course. I think a team like RCR could possibly be a solution as they have the infrastructure in place to build them and they certainly have fallen down the pecking order at Chevy. However I'm skeptical that Childress could be persuaded to switch unless Dodge really commits to them with money and support.

Other than RCR I don't really see a team that's a good fit for them right now. I think Dodge needs to come back to a team that has plenty of resources already, not a smaller or under funded team. Ray Evernham isn't going to make it work for them this time so they're going to have to be fully committed to whoever they choose. Either way I hope to see them back in the near future as its great to see the "big 3" American brands going at it on the track.

if dodge is coming back I would look for it to be announced with some fan fare and well in advance of another season. I think the planning for this would take 18 months or more. further what good would it do to sign dink teams like JTG or FRR, or front row racing or even RPM. if they come back they are going to do it with a big player that is proven to win races. The problem now days is who is really able to switch anymore and even more who would. If dodge was serious they would have ceased on the opportunity to buy penske's engine shop and signed on some teams. HMS I don't see switching, roush that aint going to happen. toyota does a good job of supporting its teams MWR and gibbs, who is left?? RCR?? they have been chevy well since the beginning. its going to cost dodge huge to come back now.

I don't see Dodge coming back any time soon...why would they?

I hope so. Just look at how mean it is.

Never understood why Penske went to Ford. "Alright, we won a championship over HMS Chevys with Dodge - let's move to Ford!" ....excuse me?

That decision was made at Penske way before they won the championship, but I still don't understand it. They were the biggest (only) fish in the pond with Dodge, and now they're apparently second on the food chain over at Ford behind RFR. But I'm sure there was plenty of behind the scenes stuff we don't know about.

The mustangs are still running in the NNS but Dodge pulled out of the cup series.

There's still some small teams running last years stuff. Just like in the 90's when that god-awful looking Ford Taurus happened.. Some teams still ran T-Birds for a couple years after that.

That ugly Taurus had both 3 (Winston) Cup and 2 Nationwide (Busch) series championships. Also, the Taurus was the first sedan to be NASCAR approved.

I didn't say it wasn't successful. Just that it was fugly. Haha

I didn't know about it being the first approved sedan though.. That's pretty cool.

Dodge only offered a 3 year deal, and Penske demanded the same 5 years he always got. Roger decided it was better to switch manufacturers the same year nascar started racing the new car so they wouldn't be too far behind.

I guess it made sense on paper.

I think too , that the writing was on the wall that head office overseas were not big Nascar fans .Their lack of interest in getting back into Nascar is likely proof that Penske was right.

I think it really just came down to dollars and cents. Ford came a calling with a sweet deal with lots of cash and promised support. Couple that with the chance to benchmark their stuff against the Roush guys and potentially have some shared data to help compete against the bigger Chevy and Toyota camps, and Roger couldn't say no. Add to that Dodge's seemingly lack of interest in committing long term to Penske and the choice became clear.

If Dodge was really serious about continuing racing in NASCAR then you don't let your only team get into the final year of their deal without a renewal. Especially after losing all their other teams over the past few years, they should have gotten that thing done way ahead of time. They didn't, Penske moved on and Dodge is now on the outside looking in. For how long is now the question.

I wonder if this would be different if Dodge had gone on without Fiat. Not saying it was a bad thing that it happened, just wondering...

Financial assistance, engineering assistance, wind tunnel time. Guess which manufacturer scaled back/cut the most of those to the teams after the recession?

Dodge would have gone bankrupt and its assets sold or it would have been restructured by the government like GM.

As for the Andretti thing, it isn't happening next year if it hasn't been announced yet. We'd hear news about them testing a new Dodge engine at Rockingham or something if they planned to enter NASCAR with Dodge.

penske is different that any of the other nascar teams, you must understand that. for one they don't run all the contingency stickers on the car, why because they don't need the money and because it clutters up the car. Penske has SO many business connections outside of racing that getting a car sponsored is pretty easy for them. they have full time sponsors I think on both cars which is unheard of. Further roger himself is a billionaire. So don't think dodge was doing such a great thing for them. When dodge is down to 2 teams in the entire sport the writing is clearly on the wall about the level of commitment to the sport they have. Penske won the title last year because of the unique way the team is structured, for instance they run the most new cars in a given year over anyone else. its clear if you had to ask whos cars have the most money spent on them the answer would have to be penske cars. it might not mean they are the best cars on the track but make no mistake a penske car has more R&D put into and more money spent than any other race team. So don't say what a big deal it was for them to switch from dodge. dodge wasn't doing anything measurable for them anymore. ford comes along and with money I am sure that had been spent with RPM was shifted over to penske. They were going to have to switch to the gen 6 cars anyways, so the only real change is the engines. roush probably gives them a better deal on motors than it costs to run an entire engine shop for 2 cars. Ford was willing to support more than dodge, so really making the change was a no brainer.

Personally I've always loved the Penske org. I think Roger is one of the true class acts of the sport and business world. From Rusty to Kurt now with Brad and Joey, I've always cheered for them. It became pretty apparent though that Penske was the only one keeping Dodge relevant in the sport. It's really too bad because by 2012 those Dodge engines were arguably the best in the sport, if I recall correctly they didn't have a single failure and easily had the best fuel mileage, and still had the horsepower to run up front on the big tracks.

Question for you guys regarding Penske. Does anyone see the day where they displace Roush as the flagship Ford team? I know how long RFR has been with Ford but I'm sure back in the 90's nobody would have thought RCR would be displaced by Hendrick as the flagship Chevy team.

Not a chance....Jack has that wrapped up and will continue to do so.
