Will the Cup race be decided at Homestead, the last race of the year? If so, who does that favor? When was the last time the Championship was decided in the last race of the year? If not at Homestead, then where will it be decided? How cool would it be to watch the last race of the year knowing your guy has a chance to win it all? Even if "your guy" isn't in the hunt at that point, it would still be righteous to see these boys racin' for all the marbles in one 3.5 hour stretch! It would be like a Super Bowl or something, but BETTER!:D

It might and that would be exciting. As much as I hate to say it, I think Jeff Gordan is now the favorite to win it all. Going to the tracks the second time around was going to help his chances enuf, but now with the new aero package for Chevrolet he will prob win at least 3 more races. The only other one I see catching Sterling is Bill Elliot, he has been very fast and also consistent.

I have thought all season that Homestead will decide it. That favors Tony Stewart...he owns the place. I'm sticking to my guns on Martin this year. All the other contenders have had their hot streaks and mini-runs. Mark is about to have his, beginning after NH.

1. Martin
2. Gordon
3. Marlin
4. Stewart

All others eliminated before Phoenix.

TnWard I hope your right,I do like that it is close. The excitment is starting to build.Cooler weather will be on Martins side when it comes to the motor. It seems under hot conditions the Roush motors fail more often.:)

I am at a fight with myself lol jeff gordon is my favorite driver, and I would love to see him get closer to that 7 cup tie or 8 cup record breaker, but I also thi
nk martin derservs a cup win especially after 1990.

:jumping: I saw a post on another board. A man wanted to know where were the Mark Martins fans. Well Martin is 3rd in points. And it's not over till the fat lady sings. I think that will be the last 1 or 2 races.

It often doesnt, and i dont think it will, but this year has a good chance of doing so. it is rather exciting and pushes a few extra drivers to keep their performance level up. iu like it:D

from here on is Marks time.
The worst races for mark are over if you look at the history Marks tracks are coming up and it seems that everyone has forgot that.

Richmond the 6 car was the best on the long runs and Mark was the car to beat at Dover.Atlanta and Charlotte are similiar tracks. From here on there is not a bad track for Mark. All he has to do is keep a steady hand and BOOM!Look who is leading the points. This is going to remind alote of people of Alan Kulwiki in 92' when nobody expected him to win.Well you better expect it now...

IT's SHOWTIME!!!!

It would be pretty cool if Martin got it but I think Stewart will have it. He is alot better the second of his seasons and if it does come down to Homestead, he kinda owns it. If it were just Stewart and Martin going for the championship at Homestead, my bets on Stewart. But, I won't be mad if Martin gets it.

Would like to see Martin hoist that big trophy but I am doubtful that will happen. I am for anyone that has not already won a championship. My pick is Marlin, he will hang on and keep a persistent Jeff Gordon in second.

The question was posed but went unanswered. When was the last time a championship came down to the last race? Well the last note worthy one would have been 1992. Going into the last race of the year, Kulwicki, Davey Alison, and Bill Eilliot, were all legitimate contenders for the title. Allison crashed during the race, Elliot won, but Alan finished second and that was enough, he won by 10 points. Now that was racing.

This year we could see the same, with 11 races left there is only a 167 point difference between first and 5th. Any of those guys are contenders. The make or break race will be Talladega, the "big one" will close the field or eliminate contenders. We will see.

If Mark loses another Cup by a slim margin I am afraid it would affect his ability to look at the big picture. More and more drivers are getting caught up in the "moment" and not thinking long term. The most successful drivers out there this last 10 years or so are the ones that have been able to forgive and forget and get back into the game 100% focused. I too think it is gonna come down to the last race and I remember the 92 season very well and it does not get much better than that!!!!

well if it comes down to the big one at daga I'll take Gordon. He is the only driver that can enter a 43 car pile up and come out the otherside with a fresh wax job.

Thats usually because Jeff usually starts them and then drives away.

As for Martin. The late great Dale Earnhardt once likened himself to the Buffalo Bills because he couldn't win Daytona, I think Martin fits that role better, always a bridesmaid and never a bride. By the way, I am a Mark Martin supporter, had a chance to meet him in a social setting outside of NASACR and he seems to be a great guy with an unbreakable spirit. He is getting up there in years but is in better shape than most of them young bucks out there. If he doesn't win it all this year don't count him out.

Jeff Gordon is smoother than butter on a bald monkey when it comes to avoiding wrecks.
