NASCAR Issues More Threats
If NASCAR has its way, the road rage that has erupted in recent Nextel Cup races is over. NASCAR spokesman Jim Hunter said Thursday that Mike Helton, the sanctioning organization's president, will tell the drivers prior to Sunday's race at Dover International Speedway that such behavior will no longer be tolerated and that they will risk being suspended if there is more on-track retaliation. "With what Mike is planning to do at the drivers' meetings on Saturday, prior to the Busch race, and on Sunday is going to sort of give our guys, I don't want to say a final warning, but I think they'll clearly understand that we're going to do what we need to," Hunter said Thursday in a telephone interview. "If we need to suspend people, then, starting at Dover, that's a possibility." The situation has been escalating for the past few weeks. To read more...(That's Racin')

I wonder how the players will behave this weekend. In a way, I miss "Those Good Ol' Days, but with the new breed came far less of the respect and honor among competitors that I saw in the days of Yarboro, Petty and Allison. Those guys could brawl and get over it (well, most of the time).

I wonder IF this "Read The Riot Act" will change anything.

Not until the first suspensions are actually handed out. After all, how many warnings has NASCAR given then fine them ,take poits away again but never actually follow through with the suspension.

AND, the "Probation" thing isn't followed through with either.
Let's see what 2006 brings, eh?

Nascar will suspend noone, if they do it will be someone out of the top 10. Maybe they will learn from this year and next year will be perfect.

It will depend on who the driver is or who he drives for before the decision is made to suspend someone.

Hmmmm, let's see now...Robby Gordon retaliates and gets suspended? Sounds about right. Rusty Wallace retaliates and what? Nah, it'll never happen and I've seen Rusty do just that.

The rule book states that NO driver/crew member shall enter the pits of an opponent yet that is exactly what Kurt Busch did. Yeah, he was civil about the whole thing, but we know how volitile he can be and who knew that when he got up to the CC that he wouldn't throw a punch. He should have been blocked from going there in the first place, but because of who he is and being the defending champ, they took a chance.

Everything in NASCAR is in flux, meaning that what happens depends on many factors from who the parties are to where the actions happen. No doubt, some things will cause controversy no matter what. Now that is one thing that NASCAR does like.

NASCAR has suspended drivers before and certainly will again if deemed necessary. All the drivers recognize this and I do not forsee any of the childish antics of last week happening for the remainder of the chase.

I don't think they will follow through. But you never know.

You hit the nail right on the head once again CB. IMO NASXAR is consistantly incosisrant.
