Do you think with the current situation, people will step up and say it's a waste of fuel? Do you think motorsports would ever suspend it's activities? :(

Actually there was an article on this somewhere today. The answer they gave is no. NASCAR uses Leaded Gasoline and since cars cannot use it they are not "taking gas" from the consumers in crisis with the high gas proces. Also, I think ( I cannot find that article) the leaded gas is not part of the shortage, or something like that. The overall anser is NO it will not effect NASCAR the sport.

HOWEVER, I would not wanna be those drivers for the Haulers or the RV's that are filling those babies up for the trip to CALI!!!!

Doesn't the basic procuct come from the same source(oil) and Made into leaded gas, instead of unleaded gas?

The demand for leaded Gas is not there for the prices to increase much if at all.

The crunch would likely effect the fans moreso than the races. Although, it's not gonna keep me from driving from Indiana to Talladega! :beerbang:

All gasolines come from OIL. Right now there is an oil crunch. Can't someone say that oil should be diverted to unleaded plants.

There is not an oil crunch. For us to even use some of the oil from our strategic reserve is foolish. We just do not have the ability to refine the oil into gas. In fact 15 percent of our gas comes from outside the US because we cannot produce enough for ourselves.

not in an oil crunch? we got like 30% of our oil from the gulf.....so how can you say we are not in an oil crunch?

It WILL effect racing gas prices. Racing gas is twice what pump gas is. last time we got some it was around 4.54 a gal 110 oct. and that was when reg gas was around 2.00 or so a gal (in the spring) b4 i got it, i was checking prices and the lady said it was about to go up even more, so we got it when it was still "cheep"

errr, so that means we refine 85PERCENT!!!!!!!!, Look at the thread HERE There are stations running OUT OF GAS. Could you post a link where we get 15 percent of our gas from somewhere else.

I'll look for the statistics but I've noticed around here that gas prices are going back down. That along with Oil prices. I was talking with a gentleman who is a local energy analyst and he made feel smarter when discussing energy now. :) A lot has to do with foreign markets flooding the US market with fuel. The EPA relaxed the ban on obtaining it until September 15th which hopefully by that time most of our own refineries will be back on line. If you like to read a good article on means of supply ourselves with our own product read this:

US oil shale production

Pay close attention to page 11.

Yes the price of diesel is going up too, but that doesn't affect gasoline. Diesel is made from whats left of refining gasoline which is why it is supposed to be cheaper. Atleast that's what the mfg's claimed in the mid 70's after the last oil crunch as to why they were pushing diesel power in cars and pickups. Heck on the west coast here it's running .25 cents higher per gallon than regular gas.
