It's become a bit of a joke for the Daytona 500 that some kind of significance happened for one of the two drivers that are in the front row for the 500. Last year was Chase Elliott, the year before was Jeff Gordon for his last 500, Austin Dillon putting the "3" on the front row, Danica on the front row, and so on. My guess is Daniel Suarez will be on the front row for this year's 500 to make more history.

Suarez or Dale Jr. calling it now.

With Suarez comin' into cup the Earnhardt faithful have something to fret over.

Before Edwards quit they thought it was in the bag.

We can pretty much make a story out of anyone qualifying on the pole to try and prove it's rigged. It is kind of funny though, NASCAR can do no right yet they can rig an oversized restrictor plate within a hundredth of a second over the next best car. Amazing.

Pied piper leads em to the green.

Predicting Chase Elliott's D500 pole months before the 500 is one of my proudest forum moments :D

This year I wouldnt be surprised to see Jr grab it.

Teams with new teams/drivers have an incentive to qualify well at Daytona that doesn't exist for other teams since where you start is all but meaningless. It's a week of free exposure for that driver. There's plenty of conspiratorial stuff going on with BS yellows, but thinking NASCAR rigs qualifying somehow is ridiculous.

If they rig the cautions is not a crazy thought to have that they could let certain teams with more leeway.

Not much of a conspiracy guy here though. But I do know something funky happens with cautions almost on a race to race basis.

There have been those on this forum who would argue against BS cautions.

The thought the pole for the first plate event of the season being in question is simply ridiculous.

As a group, we are fortunate someone of authority steps in and puts the issue to rest.

The incentive part was what I was getting at. I was not implying NASCAR is fixing anything. If anything, it's somewhat predictable.

I remember when Jeff Burton and Jeff Gordon were racing the the Winston Million at Darlington. Burton was asked if he would race harder knowing he could win $1 million. He said he races 100% all of the time. I always thought that was a BS answer. Gordon certainly reached down for a little more and passed Burton to win the race. He obviously wanted it more. Same with these teams with new drivers or new combinations. They probably put a few more resources into the new guy's program for qualifying to get them up front.
