So instead of sitting on the couch getting all wound up over who put whom in the wall, or who went backwards, or "when's the big one gonna happen?" I took a trip (long one at that) up to Northern Virginia to see a neat old 3/8 mile dirt track, Winchester Speedway. Winchester Speedway is almost like a trip back in time, with it's concrete grandstands, white guardrails and high banks.

I think I overdid it with the number of pictures that I uploaded, but all 5 classes, from 4 cylinders to sprint cars and late models, all put on some great racing on the little track.

Go to www.LuvRacin.com, click on Virginia, then on Racing Photos. Aside for the pictures, I also put together a short slideshow of the feature winnere of each division.

I've never been there. How's the racing and how's the surface? I've heard nothing but bad things about that track.

like i said, it's an old track. Really high bank, kind of like potomac, but decent car counts and good racing. Everyone that works there is very nice, and the show is really well run. (5 classes, with heats, and I was out by 10:30). The same folks have owned it since 1971 or so. The facilities leave a bit to be desired, but who goes to an old dirt track for that?

They've got a couple big shows coming up. A continuation of the three-state-flyer late model event on the 18th, and Lucas Oil late model show coming up as well. Then there's the classic Winchester 200 in late September, which usually draws all the big regional guys, and has been known to draw other big names as well.

D@mn it, the Winchester 200 is on the same weekend as the IHRA President's Cup Nationals at Maryland International Raceway.

Maybe I'll skip on the President's Cup (even though it's the first national event I covered) and go to Winchester. :growl:

great shots...... love the throwback feel of the track with the metal gaurdrail and and the wooden privacy fences. neat stuff!

BTW, did I read the sign at the gate right?? Rain checks honored all season???? wow, thats cool. The tracks around here, those stubs are good for next week only.

I didn't ask, but right. that's certainly not normal of a lot of tracks. Most ones I've seen are only good for the next race.

thats really cool doin that.......
We have two tracks with in a few miles of each other here, and one races every other weekend, while the other races every weekend....... Lots of drivers that run the every other one run the weekly track on off weekend. Wish they would do somethin like that here, so our guys go over there, and if it rains, wouldn't lose their mony the next week when they come back to the home track. But then again, these tracks fight over car counts, fans, and the likes every week..... no chance they would work together......

There's a pair of tracks in Texas that litterally share a parking lot. Both dirt, both same size, both run on Saturdays every week, and both have great car counts and great attendence. Kennedale and Cowtown speedways, one runs late models and modifieds (I think) and the other runs sprints and street stocks. And both work great together.
