Is winning the pole for a cup race important? You do not get any points for it. The pole winner hardly seems to win the race.

I think steve parks pole last week pretty much awnsers this question

i think its important to the driver somewhat for braggin rights and for the team as a pay off for hard work....but it really doesn't mean squat race wise..

I think it is like you said. As for the race it don't mean nothing. I belive you win a little extra cash and a trophy. Oh like you said braging rights. :D

I voted for important, but should have been an option to vote for sometimes,as it depends greatly on the track how important getting the pole,or a great starting position, really is!
Case in point.Jeff Gordon called up Robbie Loomis before the Martinsville race to express how badly He wanted that pole there & the great pit stall where Nonody could block Him in,of course Jeff Gordon did get that pole, led 190 laps & won for the 14th time from the pole in His career, out of 43 poles, just 14 wins from pole position, but that's still His fave spot in wins.
Superspeedways are probably the least demanding for great starting spots,as U can go up or back about 15 positions on just 1 lap,no big deal there, but on short tracks & especially road courses where there's often not as many chances to pass then IMO qualifying starts to become a very big factor! :D

I think it depends on the track. But for the most part I dont' think it matters. Except for like thunder24 said pit selection. Don't get me wrong it's pretty cool when a driver wins the pole, but how often does someone really win the race from the pole?
