the shoplifter..................lifted 5,000 worth of stuff from saks, said she was doing it for a movie... YEAH RIGHT...........

do you think she will serve any time?

I don't think she will, she will get a slap on the wrist and a fine as do most MOVIE STARS with money..............
:(

It seems the Law wants as much attention as her CutiPie.This should have been over months ago.:) And yes a smack is the punishment comming for sure. The time has allowed the money to shift into the right hands.;)

yep..........I can name a few that have gotten away with murder.......one sitting in jail right now (Robert Blake) that will probably get away with murder too............

She will get away with it. You don't even really have to be famous to get away with something, just have enough money to hire the best lawyers and get off on some stupid technicality. But being famous never hurts.

Is this a Jury Trial?...Where did they find a Jury of her peers????

Fine and/or community service probably, and even that's BS

It is a jury trial. And some of the jurors include a legal secretary who works at Sony Studios and a man who is involved in program development for television. Also there is a producer by the name of Peter Guber. It says the other jurors are all entertainment industry members. So that constitutes a jury of her peers.

And if the judge decides there is enough evidence for Ryder to go to trial, she could face up to three years and eight months in prison if convicted, but she could also be sentenced to probation. So she pretty much could get away with it with very little or no community service or a fine. I doubt she would get jail time.

I'll give her a spanking.

If she is guilty, she is supposed to be punished not pleasured. But it might be fun though.

:( If it were me. I would be sitting in the slammer right now. She will get probation and a big movie deal.

Why are we so bloodthirsty?
All she did was shoplift. Is not shoplifting a crime. She got 5000 dollers worth of stuff. I think that could be call grand thelf.

Well Paul, because of shop lifters the price of every item has gone up to pay for security measures to stop shop lifters.
She broke the law and got caught.
She should do time just like anybody else.
What I think is funny, is on one scene on the news when she walked into court for a pre-trail hearing she had about five guys around her. I am wondering. Were all five guys lawyers? If so how much is she paying them. Hundreds of thousands of dollars to fight off a $5000.00 shoplifting spree?
I doubt if she will get jail time, but I hope she gets the maximum as this wasn't the first time she got caught, if I remember the news right.

Is it grand theft or shoplifting? You can just have it be both. It's either one or the other.

And I'm sorry, if you were caught shoplifting you wouldn't be in the slammer.

I just find it awful hypocritical that we have a thread right underneath this one saying how unfair it is for Rose to not be in the Hall of Fame (gambling is illegal you know) yet in this thread we want to see Ryder go to jail for the rest of her life for stealing some lipstick.

Oh well.

Eye for an eye makes the whole world blind.

I think the other point people may be missing on this is that $5000 worth of stuff from saks is nothing compared to $5000 of stuff from say JC Penny's If they based the cost of the items she took on full retail value, she probably had a handfull of shirts and a purse. Steal the same quanity of items from Kmart and see how much time you get. As usuall the media is blowing something trivial way out of proportion.

In the eyes of the law, $5000 is $5000, no matter where it came from.

The offense is probatable, so she'll get probation at worst, have to make restitution to the store (shouldn't be a problem), and by this time next week we will have forgotten she was even arrested.

Funniest part to me is that lame "I was doing it for research on a movie role" bit. C'mon toots...you know it's illegal, therefore you are culpable. If that defense flies, I want to audition for a role as a Sultan with a huge harem. Talk about fun research...

That was too much...maybe there is a loophole in the law in Beverly Hills that she knows about that no one else does. :) lol

I don't think that she should be going to jail like everyone else wants to see but I think she should get probation just like everyone else would. Sounds like lots of people are just jealous of her and want to see someone better off then them to go down.

They say that she should be treated like you and me, guess what? You and me would get probation not jail for shoplifting.

I belive if you take over x amount it is call grand thelf. Now shoplifting is a crime thats call stealing. If not I need to go out to my local Wall Mart and have then take down their sign that srates that. Same goes for Ryder as for Rose. If she was up for an Oscar or other award. Then give it to her she earned it. But if you are going to do the crime you should do the time. If that is what the law calls for. But all this is not worth debating over. :D :D :D

In Tennessee, where you are Gollum, Theft offenses are broken down into severity by the amount of money involved. $5000 would be classified as Theft Over $1000. The next highest class is Theft Over $10,000. In Tennessee, Theft Over $1000 is a Class D Felony. D Felonies are generally punishable by 2-4 years incarceration for persons without extensive prior criminal records. D felonies are also probatable, meaning that the assumption made during sentencing is in favor of probation. Again, many other factors are brought into play, but in a general sense, had this event occurred in The Volunteer State, Wynona Ryder would likely receive a 2 year suspended sentence, 2 years probation, and have conditions such as restitution and community service work placed on her. Further, if she had zero prior convictions, she could qualify for a provision which would allow her to have this matter permanently expunged from her record if she successfully completes a term of probation.

Of course, she is in another state, but the laws will be surprisingly similar.

Long and short of it...she will get probation like anyone else.

Don't know how much of an expert I am. It just goes with the job.
