will extensions to the front air dams at Michigan this weekend help th Chevys and Pontcraps?
NASCAR officials announced that Pont and Chevy teams have been given extensions to the front air dams of the Grand Prix and Monte Carlo, respectively, at Michigan International Speedway.

Pont teams will get a half-inch increase, with the leading edge of the air dam not extending further than 1.5 inches forward of the bumper.

Chevy teams are getting a full inch extension, and their air dam must not extend further than 3.5 inches forward of the bumper.
Now before ya go putting on that Ford Racing t-shirt think about this one, will this help th GM boyz?
We'll see........................

It was interesting that these changes are for the moment only in effect for this race. Guessing that the results will determine the future configuration.

The question is have the GM teams had enough time to evaluate the changes and set the cars up to take full advantage of any benefits. I would guess not, it has often been pointed out by the teams that any change, especially aero, requires some time to evaluate. While this change is intended to increase front downforce and probably will, the effect on the overall balance of the car may cause additional problems which will have to be addressed.

It shouldn't hurt, but the full effects will not be known in one race only, IMHO.

I smell a rat.

Guess the GMs aren't winning enough to suit some.

No TN, when GM gets a rule change it's because they are being cheated.

When Ford or Dodge get a rule change it's because they are whining and can't keep up with the pack so they need NASCAR's help.

Paul, you should bottle that sarcasm and sell it...you'd be a wealthy young man. ;)

Wouldn't you know it though, Mikey is still whining (see, I said it!). Heard the same quote on the 10 different Nascar shows he does about how instead of giving the GM cars something, they need to take away from the Dodges and Fords, so as not to upset the GM cars' balance. Hmm, why punish the cars that are performing well?

That's the typical Chevy driver mentality, we got our stuff as good as we can get it and we still blow, let's bring everyone else down to our level....if nascar did that we would be watching races with cars doing 15 mph with out any passing :D

If nascar would simply get out of the spec car biz, there would not be a problem with any of the cars. Turn the R&D guys loose and let those who do their homework HAVE the derna advantage.

Progressive and aggressive engineering is what makes for a quality racecar. nascar's efforts do nothing but limit the great engineering minds of time.

Dodge comes to the show with a body and engine ready to kick bass and nascar steps in to quell their advantage. The teams hire shock specialist who builld and then dial the babies in to the nth degree and nascar steps in to quell the technology. The use of newer, lighter, stronger, better ANYTHING is unheard of in nascar as a result of nascar's fiasco called parity.

Oh boy a bit of an extention to the front air dam. Why can't nascar just get out of the way and let the boys (and girls) race? That's a rectorial question by the way.:p

If ya want a show, try Broadway

Yep.Very well said,71.And oddly enough, the ol' General is getting a little help at that car-hating state of MICHIGAN!Gee,it looks like Nascar could have arranged it to at least have the rule apply at a track where there could be a few GM employs and bean-counters in the stands!!;)
