Or so says Williams tech director. Being insight challenged on F1 racing, wondered what someone else thought. In trying to get a bit more of a grasp on F1 goings on, will the loss of TC rearrange the field? How about the new qualifying format? Lots of folks seem to be very unhappy with these changes.
Williams technical director Patrick Head says that Formula 1 needs a major rethink about grooved tires if its cars are going to once again look spectacular.
Head claimed that the removal of traction control from this year's British Grand Prix onward will not go far enough in improving the show. He believes that a new tire philosophy is necessary to achieve this.
"We've got tires at the back that are hardly bigger than those at the front—and with more than 850hp, if you get the car slightly out of line then you destroy those rear tires and it is like driving on ice," Head declared. "So, if you want dramatic racing then you need different tires.
“You probably need regulations that cause you to have much smaller fronts and bigger rears, which will in turn move the weight to the rear again."
