Pentagon orders navy to have carriers, assault vessels ready to sail for Iraq
05:47 PM EST Dec 27
JOHN J. LUMPKIN

WASHINGTON (AP) - The Pentagon has ordered the U.S. navy to prepare two aircraft carriers and two amphibious assault vessels for possible action in Iraq, defence officials said Friday.

The orders, sent in the last two days, require the navy to have the vessels ready to sail to the seas around Iraq within 96 hours after a certain date, the officials said, speaking on the condition of anonymity. They declined to specify that date.

The ships and their escorts of cruisers, destroyers and submarines, would bring a powerful military force to the region, adding several warships, scores of strike aircraft and roughly 2,500 marines to the forces in the region.

Umm...I guess they are just trying to play it safe or something...I hope.

well guess they feel the need to prepare...it is gonna happen no matter what people wish for or think.....war with those people (I use that word mildly) is inevitable, gonna happen whether we want it to or not........so best be prepared :(

There's no draft mustang. I don't think it will be reinstated unless things really go to hell and it gets to be a protracted war (doubtful). Of course if N. Korea gets out of hand, that may change everything......hope that doesn't happen.:) But all that does not change the fact that we (as a country) cannot let things keep going the way they have been going for the last 10 or 15 yrs.

A friend of mine at work is in the reserves. She was told to get her affairs in order as she was being called up right after the first of the year. She has heard, unoffically, that they will be going to Kwaite (sp.?) at the beginning of Jan. She was told to plan on being there for the "duration". This doesn't sound good, folks.

didn't think they took reserves right now, but if they are..then something is gonna happen.......nope doesn't sound good at all.........:(

Our military has been depleted so much over the last 15 to 20 yrs that "reserves" are just the second stage of any deployment......it's good we have them, but it would be better if they were, in fact, last to be called. The Cold War may have ended but the danger to this country never lessened.......just different enemies.:)

well, that is their job...they knew it when they first went in to be reservists........
guess MOST of them didn't think they would actually be in a real war..........:(

There has also been a LOT of activity at the local AFB lately!

Let's all Pray for the best!

My brother-in-law is in the Air Force. He has been training for several months for an expected deployment to Kuwait any day. They are just waiting for the official order to deploy immediately. I think it's on any day now.
