Would NASCAR allow a test such as this today?

I was watching the Coke Zero pre-race show and enjoyed the taped interview with Cale Yarborough. The old NASCAR footage (which showed a lap car being passed at high speed) used in the clip triggered my memory and made me think of this video.

Looking back, maybe not the smartest method to use to compare the speed difference between a passenger car and a racecar, although it was under a controlled environment. Still, we've all heard of Murphy's Law.

I'm not sure if NASCAR or a NASCAR sanctioned track would permit such a "test" today.

They do it every race, don't you know that? IRL used to, as well. Milka Duno and (insert any S&P name here) drove the street cars.

It would depend on if the race tracks insurance would give it the ok. I think the insurance man does more to the race tracks anymore then what the actual promotors can do.

That was the good old days of ESPN. Probably around 93 or 94. Ned Jarret in the passenger car and his son Dale in the race car. The first time by was getting up to speed and the second time by was at full speed with Ned at 65 MPH. I actually have it on a vhs tape somewhere. It was awesome.

Nope, That would be Terry Labonte in the Piedmont Airlines #44 Oldsmobile in 1985 or 1986. Ned Jarrett is driving a Olds Cutlass convertible.
Daytona sure was different back then.

Racer8 I beleive Ned and Dale did something similar later on.
