#Iwantracetickets We have a winner with exact number....10,071

--------

NASCAR

After 10,071 laps -- 13,524.24 miles -- only 3 points separate 1st and 2nd going into the finale. Amazing. #NASCAR

Problem is, they have run 10,383 laps. They somehow forgot Phoenix.

As a penalty we should "park" NASCAR for a while after this coming weekend. ;)

If they were only separated by 3 points without resetting the points, that would be impressive.

That's for sure. Had they not reset the points we wouldn't even be talking about Tony right now. We would have crowned our champ @ Phoenix.

I can live with it. I do with all the other sports resetting win records for their playoffs.

The 2007 Patriots were 18-1 while the Giants were champions with a 14-6 record. The list of teams dominating the regular season and never being declared overall champions goes on and on.

I was just looking for other close battles such as this and found.......

1979 after race 30 of 31, Darrell Waltrip had a two point lead over then 6-time champion Richard Petty. Take a guess who won that championship after the last race of the 79 season ran @ Ontario. :D

Richard by 11 points. He won 5 races that year.

Kurt beat JJ by 8 points in 2004. That's 2 top 10 positions. Kurt got lucky. JJ had 4 engine failures that year.
