188 laps.....30 to 35 lap fuel window?......6 fuels stops....8 laps to regroup per makes for a maximum of 40 non big pack racing. Add in a competition yellow to check milage, three others for wall scrapes, and one mystery yellow near the end of the race to make it an exciting finish and you've still got 120 laps of green flag racing with the pack bunched up 5 times behind the pace car. There are only going to be 2 or 3 green flag stops anyways.

And so ya got a couple smaller packs with larger gaps between them. At close to 200 miles an hour, if there ain't no way thru a blocked track, there still ain't no way thru no matter what the pack gap is. And look for a number of rear end smashes when cars slow to enter pit lane.

This years Wreckadega is going to prove once and for all that nascar needs to get out of the rolling billboard parade and crashfest biz and let the boys run what they brung.

I predict an even greater number of non-finishers, and just hope nascar hasn't signed somebodies death warrant.

That's what I've been saying all along, but this is Nascar's solution, even though i think it is a half-a$$ed one, we'll see what happens.

Another problem is with these wrecks with smaller packs, there will be less cars to bounce off of in a wreck, and we could end up seeing some more serious injuries. Let's hope for a safe race.

Small packs, and then a spin, result in a hard hit into the wall. NASCAR is running into problems with all their restrictions. This weekend could very well end up with some serious injuries. All these pit road stops, and people coming on and off and bunching up small will make for some interesting racing BUT there could be serious consequences. Lets all just hope this race is a safe one.

I think this just increases the chances of heavy car to car impact. Like a spinning car that has slowed to under 100mph and a full speed car hitting it. Ugly...

Pack your HANS and Hutchinson devices, boys! You're going to 'Dega!

This thread is really starting to concern me. If this decision winds up backfiring, I hope the repercussions will be enormous. NASCAR shouldn't be allowed to just go around changing rules willy nilly. Maybe if Helton were strapping his butt into a car for a change, he'd put a little more thought into these absurd rules.

Well, since they can't think of a way to slow down cars other than the restrictor plates (even though drivers have recommended the change some of the spoiler heights), they are trying this fuel thing. So if you can't fix the problem, avoid it. We'll see how it turns out.

Why can't they just run narrower tires, you'd have to back out in the turns, wouldn't ya? If it won't turn at 190 then you gotta take yer foot off the go pedal.

Or I'm I just too simple minded??

Square tires would slow them down even more. You watch, that will be Nascar's next move.

I still contend that the only way to make the racing safer is to make the driver have to lift going into the corners. The only way to do that for sure is to lower the banking.

ISC needs to part with some of the billions in the bank and lower the damned banking. 5 degrees would do it.

Boo, he can't strap his butt into a car, it's bigger than Jimmy Spencer's. Mike must eat super Krispie Kremes! I say he finds Kenny Wallace and get some of that Stacker 2. He could just put it in the donuts,;) :D

I'm glad you said it, because I was biting my tongue with that comment. :D
