2013 - You Da Man!

Okay, perhaps another stupid or maybe not so stupid idea for a game that I was thinking of during one of my recent commutes. I've never seen a game like this and there may be a very good reason for that. I’m going to give you a list of teams/drivers and it’s up to you to pick out the top finisher(s) in each of these organizations. You’ll earn points on where your selections finish in the final standings after Homestead. For example, Hendrick Motorsports. Your choices will be Gordon, Johnson, Earnhardt, & Kahne. If you picked Johnson for your top guy @ HMS for the 2013 season and he finishes 3rd in the final points standings, you get 3 points for that pick. The object of this game will be to have the fewest points overall once all of your team picks are added up. You will get points for every pick that you make. Teams that have two drivers one driver will be selected. Teams with 3 or more drivers, two drivers will be selected. Due to the limited number of teams a tie is probably a great possibility so there will have to be a tie breaker of some sort. Simple enough or clear as mud? Right now I'm just looking for feedback on this idea. Don't make any picks. If it sucks then say so. If you think it sounds like something you'd participate in, let me know.

Team lists include…..

Earnhardt Ganassi Racing
Jamie McMurray
Juan Pablo Montoya

Hendrick Motorsports
Kasey Kahne
Jeff Gordon
Jimmie Johnson
Dale Earnhardt, Jr.

Joe Gibbs Racing
Denny Hamlin
Kyle Busch
Matt Kenseth

Michael Waltrip Racing
Clint Bowyer
Martin Truex, Jr.

Penske Racing
Brad Keselowski
Sam Hornish Jr.
Joey Logano

Richard Childress Racing
Paul Menard
Kevin Harvick
Jeff Burton

Richard Petty Motorsports
Marcos Ambrose
Aric Almirola

Roush Fenway Racing
Greg Biffle
Ricky Stenhouse, Jr. (R)
Carl Edwards

Stewart-Haas Racing
Danica Patrick (R)

Feedback.

It seems like we're picking the final points order, but limited to choosing 1 or 2 drivers from each organization listed. Is that the deal?

basically yes.

Just a suggestion. It may be interesting if points were awarded based on finishing order within their organization. You would have 15 competitions each week to determine points.

It may be too easy to pick 2 of 3 drivers in an organization. Perhaps 1 pick for up to 3 fulltime teams, 2 for 4 fulltime teams. (Hornish isn't fulltime cup next year).

Hold on there a second. I was looking at a very simple long term thing. If you're looking for a week to week game then by all means grab the wheel, take the idea and run with it. That would be a lot more fun I just don't have that much time on my hands to calculate that each week. Besides, you know me and maff err math. I was just thinking that everyone could make their pick at the beginning of the year and we'll all see where this plays out come the checkered @ Homestead.

Teams typically have one driver who does better than the others. For example, I'd pick Harvick every week. I'm not sure this type of game would work. But maybe picking the finishing order of the teams based on the driver with the best finish from each team might work.

No, I'm not saying week by week, but I see your point about being harder to track. For some reason I took your original post as a competition between teammates and mangled it from there.

I like it, its basically predicting failure:D

The more I think about it the more I think this would have had to have been a weekly type game so some separation can be created. It probably would have come down to a tiebreaker in the end and that wouldn't be as fun. I've got enough to do with the BOLD Predictions, Yahoo Fantasy and the Chase for the Cup game over the last 10 races of the season. Both TRL & Spike have some great weekly games that everyone can participate in that they've been running a long time. Thanks for the input everyone.

dpk, you will at least let us know if you see your shadow today, right? :D
Damn, I forgot about that. Oh, you'd see my shadow alright. Phil on the other hand is another story altogether. I can tell you one thing though..... I only live slightly over and hour and a half from Punxsutawney and Phil's going to be freezing his nads off this morning. It's about 10 degrees here in western PA.

They really need to change the Punxsutawney Phil format to boost interest with todays audience. Perhaps they could drop Digger down Phils chimney and see what happens.

A 'fan vote' would be awesome! We could all vote on whether or not they shove his a$$ back down the hole when his head pops out.

lol Perhaps a variation of La Tomatina. Instead of Tomatos, people try to scare Phil back in by throwing cocoanuts. They could get Hawaii to pay a million to sponsor the thing as the 'Punxsutawney cocoanut unlimited'. The best part is that the target male audience will watch anything that features bouncing milk containers.

I understand that Richard Childress is quite a big game hunter . He has every wall in his home filled with trophy heads collected from all over the world . It would be neat to see a celebrity ground hog hunt with Phil and Digger being the main prizes. I'm sure Richard and his buds would be up for that. The outdoor channel would sign on I'm sure.
