as of right now, I have 11,932 emails in my deleted items folder since Feb 6, 2008.
I'm seeing how many i get per year. If OE doesn't crash before then.

That's to much to even go through. I would delete a few people. 
That's why I use clones for most of my emailing. Very, very few people have my real mail addy.
I don't ever use my real addy when I buy things, register for newspapers, etc. Lycos, hotmail, and yahoo have excellent spam catchers --- so my real mail box is never cluttered.

Yeah, I do the same. I have my work email which has a good filter. And then 2 personal ones. I use hotmail for my junk mail. gmail does good for my personal and their filter works well.
I don't get any spam.

the only thing i can say is the more times you have to give your email address out the more emails you will get.
That's where the clones really come in handy.
I keep one strictly for registration on news sites.
It's not even subscriptions..most of it is from crawlers going across my websites. Oh well, i'll probably be switching my godaddy account to primary in february as i let the older website expire. Godaddy has excelent spam control.
