Discontent with Nascar

Hopefully it had the 2.8 liter V6 or you hit the jackpot with a Eurosport model!

Yes and yes :D

I added a 3rd gen Firebird spoiler, Beretta Z26 wheels, headlight covers, a Cherry Bomb muffler, and a killer stereo. I thought it was the coolest car in town

I am with you as the quality of the race trumps everything for me and after a promising start to the year things went south fairly quickly.

I'll give them credit, they are trying to make changes. The effort is definitely there. I think Nascar is doing about as much as they can without completely re-engineering the Gen6.

The Celebrity Eurosport, the Cavalier Z24, the Beretta GT, the Monte Carlo SS....Chevy was all about some red trim in the late 80's.

Those 2.8's sounded the best for about 1 minute after the first start of the day. Love the Z26 wheels!

I started a thread about how we watch Nascar races a few days ago and was hoping you would participate seeing you are on record as saying most fans don't watch the series correctly.

I proposed a solution to those who bitch constantly.

Your boy Carl Edwards is on record stating this several times over the years.
So, he is my boy now. Who knew? :idunno:
MOST fans are happy to watch a race, regardless of who wins.
I disagree....nothing better than a Junior win, and I promise you if he wins the Chase, the Chase bitching will stop.
Last but not least, if you can't recognize the difference between good and bad racing, I can't help you.
I am not alone. Read the "Rate the Race" thread sometime.
But your condescending tone towards those who can has become as tiresome as the complaints you repeatedly see on here.
Nothing could be more tiring than the constant bitching about the sport. If you don't like it, try soccer. Everybody loves soccer I'm told.

Many of those who "bitch" about Nascar truly like it, they just want to see it be as successful as it can. Many of us are not content with mediocrity, especially after living through better times when the racing was fantastic on a consistent basis. Don't get me wrong, I still love Nascar despite it's problems.

Carl Edwards drives a TRD Camry for Joe Gibbs. I assumed this meant you were a big fan of his.

Actually I don't think you made any specific recommendations but instead put forth the theory that Nascar would be enjoyed more if watched differently. Feel free to share any ideas you have though as it sure wouldn't hurt anything.

Actually the fanboi stuff is the worst in many people's opinions.

I have told people that complain about the complainers to be thankful of any talk of Nascar positive or negative as at least it is still being spoken of. Positive happy talk will come if the series ever gets its house in order but right now they don't even know how to use the caution flag properly.

I'm told I'm a Kyle Busch fanboi, so it's hard for me to keep up with the peanut gallery. Love TRD though. No question.

IDK about any amusement as it was a rather sad statement and nothing to be amused about.

Try anything to be positive, and enjoy the race tomorrow. Not sure you will, but I promise you 100% I will. Can't wait. Have a great night man.

Kids today are installing a throaty exhaust on a Mazda 3
I know a lot of "kids" who are into cars. They are not the least bit interested in watching that NASCAR series where they drive Grandpa's Ford Fusion around in a circle on TV. They don't have Cable anyway. Hell, they don't even really watch TV. "Who needs a TV? It's just full of commercials about ***** pills"

Here is what they are into. I encourage you to watch the whole video. I'm not into the "stanced" thing. I run a Subaru WRX in the local Rallycross series, and that's where I meet a lot of these kids.

NASCAR isn't something they think about, even for a moment. So the next time you hear someone says "Kids are into cars anymore" you can tell them "No, Kids are way into cars. They just don't like what we liked."

Great post and that confirms what many are saying on here. I live in Northern Ontario just west of Cochrane and you can believe me when I say we don't have any of that stuff here. Once kids finish high school they must move south for more education and that is where they would meet up with that culture.
If they stay and work in the north, big 4 wheel drives and a 4 wheeler are the thing.

There is no denying that car culture is in decline. I know people in my generation who are perfectly happy to rely on public transportation and Uber and don't even have a license. Its too early for me to search, but I'm pretty sure there are statistics to back up the fact that fewer teens are seeking a license.

Dude.......if I could resurrect Phyllis Diller and slap a TRD sticker on her forehead and paste some exhaust decals on her butt you would be on one knee professing your undying love!

Ask a sophomore when they will begin taking driver education and half of them don't even know what you are talking about. The main thing is to have an iPhone with unlimited data as that is all that is required for happiness for far to many youngsters.

Car culture is not dieing because kids wait until a few years to get their driver's license. It's more expensive now than it used to be so they just get started a few years later.

:XXROFL:That's awesome man. Good stuff. You are probably right. :)

I never heard a 4 or 6 cylinder that ''sounded good''.... you must have different ideas of what sounds good than me.........
V-8's sound the best, but there are some non-8's that sound great as well. Even the new V-6 Camaro sounds pretty good...

I'm just not a fan of the stupid title format and couldn't care less. I would like a regular 35 race season followed by the top 4 in points racing for the title in Miami based on best finish. That would be damn exciting and have that Game 7 feel.

Instead we have this dumb win a race and you're in crap

I've actually suggested this very format a few times on here. If you're gonna have one race to decide a championship, at least do it amongst four drivers who ran at a championship caliber all year.

I like that idea, they could have the regular race without the 4 cars. After the race, blow the track clean, line up the 4 cars along the S/F line. At the drop of the green they run 50 laps for the win and new champion. Points leader gets lane choice for the start. No pit stops required or you could have a mandatory 4 tire stop at their choice. No pitting under yellow should a caution be necessary.

I'd love to see the game #7 moment @ Homestead be a rain delayed/called victory for the 2016 Sprint Cup Champion. A team that couldn't have taken the hardware under any other circumstances. What other result could do so much to reinforce the stupidity of this playoff format?

The tv contract will eventually force NBC, and probably fox, to cut their losses and walk away. I can see NBC, if they cannot buy their way out, sending a skeleton crew to the tracks, airing the races on esquire, or some other obscure comcast channel. Forcing NASCAR to return to negotiating table mid contract.

And like I said before, NBC is the one that forced this chase mess on us. Next time around, NASCAR just needs to deal with one company. Put all 36 races in one package, and just give it to fox or espn. Everything NBC touches eventually turns to crap, including Sunday night football.

If Nascar keeps trending downward at its current pace there will have to be some sort of give back or as you said renegotiation. NBC and FOX may not be able to legally break their current contracts but they sure can put pressure in Nascar to grant concessions. Thinking that a 10 year contract can not be modified or that because all the 30 second commercial slots are filled represents no concern is naive.

Any financial give-back relative to broadcast revenues will be easy to track.

As a publicly traded company, Speedway Motorsports publishes its financials quarterly. Revenues derived from the TV contracts are shown as a line item separate from ticket sales and other streams.
