Might be your definition of "fan base." I think a lot of hard-core long term racing fans follow drivers they may have a personal connection with, regardless of their position in the point standings. Fans that come and go, AKA bandwagon fans, generally follow the top drivers.

Or we could look at who has the longest line at the merch trailers…
 
I think the point here is that Deegan's social media following is an indication of her marketability and her greatest tool to carving out a NASCAR career.

For those reasons, she's gotten opportunities more talented drivers have not. That's fine.

That being said, the results are weak as heck, and it's reasonable to wonder how much longer she remains off the hotseat if she doesn't produce results.

Hailee isn't talented enough to be a successful NASCAR driver. But she is smart enough and good enough of a marketer to give herself a chance. And if she can find it in her skillset to run better, she could luck into a mid pack gig in cup for a few years until she flames out.

It is what it is. A lot of mediocre drivers are wheel holders. A lot of great drivers never get a chance.

Hailee figured out how to get there. Good for her. But it isn't going to work out 10 years from now. For now, just enjoy the ride.

So you changed your mind about people following mid pack racers? Based on my observation she had the most attention during the truck autograph session at Mid Ohio last weekend and more people wearing her t shirts than any other driver.

A lot of people seem to think she's a top-tier driver, or think we should give her credibility because she's hot and has a ton of social media followers.

Geesh, you Bobby's twin brother? We were only discussing popularity, not racing credentials. I realize it is hard for some people to admit they were wrong.

So that means ALL real fans do not watch these? I've been a race fan for over 50 years and watch her videos. I do understand not caring once the helmets come off though. I am this way with celebrities in general, I don't really care what their names are, what they do outside or who they marry. I just want to watch a movie and know that person for the person in the movie.

I didn’t say ALL. Groupies get a kick out of her vids. My opinion is she doesn’t have much to say. IMO, she’s Danica 2.0 and at this point I don’t see her moving up to Xfin and certainly not Cup because she seems to be plateaued out where she is. That could change but right now I don’t see it happening.

Hailie Deegan Ready To Face Racing’s Best At Pevely, Missouri Dirt Track

(Pevely, MO) The stars of the Camping World SRX Series are set to run their fifth event of the season, this coming Saturday night, July 16th. The race, presented by Federated Car Care, will be held at Federated Auto Parts Raceway at I-55 in Pevely, Missouri. One talented young racer who will be making her first appearance at the track is California’s Hailie Deegan.

Deegan will be behind the wheel of one of the 13 SRX cars competing just two days before her 21st birthday. Growing up racing off-road and on dirt, Deegan has transitioned to being a full-time racer with the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series. On her way through the racing ranks, Deegan became the first female driver to have won races with the West Series.

Last season, Deegan was named the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series Most Popular Driver on her way to a 17th place point standing finish. This past weekend, she showed her ability on a road course, claiming her best finish of the season at Mid-Ohio.

Deegan very well may be one to contend with this Saturday night, as her best SRX finish came last season at another dirt track, Knoxville Speedway. In that race, Deegan finished second to Tony Stewart.

Deegan’s competition will come from a mix of IndyCar and NASCAR stars in addition to a Trans-Am superstar. Ryan Hunter-Reay, Paul Tracy, Matt Kenseth, Tony Kanaan, Tony Stewart, Michael Waltrip, Bobby Labonte, Ken Schrader, Ryan Newman, Greg Biffle, Marco Andretti, and Ernie Francis, Jr. will all take on the Pevely dirt. The DIRTcar Modified class will also race on Saturday night.

Grandstands open at 2:00 PM on Saturday afternoon with Modified hotlaps at 3:30, SRX practice at 4:00, SRX Q&A at 5:45, SRX racing at 7:00, and Modified racing at 9:30.

I like her as she is in a Ford, I like her because David Gilliland seems to like her. I don't follow social media much other than this forum. There was a Flash! Then a Fizz.... zz ... I might take more notice if a top five happens.

In her latest vid about Pocono, she said only a couple lines about the race. They had two left front tires go down, couldn't get the truck to turn (sounds like the truck wasn't set up properly) and that the brakes went out. Most of the vid was about other things.

That what happens when you become a lifestyle vlogger that drivers racecars on the side.

I'm not even being snarky. How many times can you be expected to keep an audience engaged with results like, "we ran 22nd again" or "we ended up on the wrecker again", right? So if the racing doesn't provide enough storyline, then create a new one I guess. Would be cool to see the storyline be about a top 5 or racing for a win or something though.

My take on the recent video was Hallie taking the high road. Nothing good to say about the race results. Why say more than she did?

cameras could have gone on the blink, it happens. I think they only have one guy filming most of the time. They got some footage interacting with the fans before the race.

I actually would love for her to do better. I would love to have some competitive female drivers in all levels of nascar. Unfortunately neither of those things are happening right now. At least someday I expect there to be competitive female drivers. Unfortunately for Hallie, I don't see her as being one.

She needs more seat time. I still say she should race some in the CARS Tour or some short track series during off weeks. If I was DGR, I'd try to get her in a car at Hickory once or twice, then in the ValleyStar 300 and the three big races in November (Jacksonville, Florence, Southern National).

I have serious issues with her whole family. She's NOT the person I would choose to be a role model. But I DO enjoy all the guys getting their panties in a wad because it's NOT still 1950. Business models change. She's running with what works, now, for her.
