Travis Pastrana?

Are you for real? Mark has no shot at winning anything. he needs to get a hobby other than racing.
Pffff... ur talking about a guy who had the fastest car almost every lap he ran last season.. and a team that won last week. I can almost guarantee Mark will visit victory lane at least once more in his career. But he is running out of time.

I thought that unless someone is winning at least 5 times a season they have no business on the track at all and that they should retire?
At least thats what some people here think.

Travis has always been fast, no matter what he was riding\driving. The problem is he always looses control and crashes. It was the crashes that made him retire from motocross. I just don't see him being a factor at any level. If I'm wrong, I'll own it and give him the props he deserves, but I don't think I am.

here is a question, how much late model experience does TP have??? umm like none right. getting speed out of the cars is way harder than it looks. I have driven a late model myself and after talking to guy at irwindale that maintains the cars I was about 2 seconds off what the cars are capable of. that is a freaking whole lot of time. TP should have started out running some late model races. instead I think they put him first in a west car and then straight to NW.

I also totally agree 29 is too old to start driving these cars. I think someone needs to be running them when they are 16-18 yrs old or even less. its not days of thunder where someone says oh I have watched races on ESPN.

I think he drove a few late model races, but yeh he went right into a West car and didn't get a whole lot of experience there either. I still think if he had no distractions he could pull it off, but when you run X-Games, have a TV show, and all the other stuff, no way can you dedicate enough time and focus on NW. To me this looks just like a side show for him, something more to add to his resume, I hope that is not the case, because I think the guy is pretty cool, and I'd like to see him win a race some day.

He is 29 and acts 12 to me. Young Elliott and Blaney and Larson all seem more mature to me anyway. Jumping around and talking fast might work for the youngster fans I guess.

Dude, he has taken a dead end career like motocross(seriously you're done by your early to mid 20's, generally it wont make you rich either) and capitalized on the low profile success and built a global brand out of himself. Say what you will but no 12-year-old-acting 29 year old ends up this 'self-made'.

That's kinda my point, time to turn the page and move on. I saw a special on him a few years ago when he started racing on four wheels.. He came from a working class family and he has a good close family and all that. The big question then as it is now was how was all that going to transfer to Nascar racing. There are a whole lot less motocross fans in their 30's and older than there are in the under 30 crowd. That isn't the case in Nascar. Whatever age he is or acts, I think anyway that in his second year in N'wide has been pretty disappointing so far. Maybe not for life long fans. He does get plenty of camera time, but it is for crashing cars. He hasn't drawn a strong sponsor and is in the rear of the standings, so to me his career in Nascar isn't looking that great at this point.

I'm a big Travis fan and love what he brings to the sport , but I have to agree with you on the sponsor issue . I assumed that (like Danica ) he would easily attract new sponsors to the sport . It amazes me that this has not been the case . If he doesn't attract a major sponsor this year , I wouldn't be surprised if he disappears (like Ricky Carmichael).

Yeah I am not trying to hammer the guy, I liked Charmichael, but the same thing, he couldn't drive the car fast enough, he either wrecked it or he was in the back. Sponsors don't flock to a guy that is doing that. Travis did get some sponsor help, he has a Nascar commercial out now, 12 world records, own TV show etc. But in Nascar, they don't even know his name. ..you bet, they don't care if he can drive a motorcycle. :) he knows it himself. It would be great to watch if he can turn it around.

whats a NW team cost to run these days 5-7 million for a season?? thats a lot more than the kinda money pastrana was rolling with doing his other various activities. I am actually surprised he has a ride at all. like I said put the guy in a late model and when he wins some late model races then lets talk.

Sponsorship programs aren't based on winning . Sponsors pay basically to be in the show . Some pay a heck of a lot more to be on a top ten car , but others are more than pleased to be on a mid pack car for mid pack money . Even paying top money like a Budweiser gets no guarantee of a trip to victory lane . For a company like an energy drink to hook up with a driver like Travis , get in the show , get talked about , have Travis do personal appearances for them , you'd think that would be a natural . Some drivers are so good with sponsors , they may be driving forever. Anyway , Travis doesn't need to win races to get (or keep) a sponsor , but he does need to find a sponsor in order to keep racing. Just old fat guy ramblings.

I think you are behind the times. JR motorsports is having trouble with NW sponsorship. mid pack money is now considered great money. The mid pack teams that keep sponsorship usually have a very significant tie in to the sponsor, ie a really long relationship, someone that they are really good friends with in the company, or potentially a relative or the driver has these relationships with the sponsor and manages to bring it with them. the only sponsors that are ok with just being in the show are the ones on back marker cars and let me tell you they are on underfunded teams and they are underfunded for a reason that being the sponsorship is big time discounted.

the energy companies sponsoring TP during his stunts and in other forms of racing were not paying 5-7 mil a year for the sponsorship.

I think it is a lot more than 5-7 mil, it cost a least a Mil to run the Whelen Mod tour if your are a front runner.

Here we go with the woman hater **** again...

For all the people saying IDK why Roush is keeping him he's crappy and has no sponsorship etc, Travis is self sponsored. i.e. Roush gets all the money that a sponsor would give with Travis doing sponsorship gigs, fan appeal, etc.

Pretty sure TP pays a pretty big chunk of change to sit in that car, himself.

Pastrana went from 17th or 18th to 10th in the final 6 laps today. God that boy should get the hell out of these cars... I mean what a loser right??!

He redeemed himself a bit there. Let's see if Travis can manage Iowa round 2 without crashing this time ;)

Yeah we'll see. I'm sure this is a much needed confidence booster though.

Yeah he needed that bad. He is way down in 14th, that should move him up, he needs to be in the top 10 IMO. They still have quite a few races left. It should work out pretty good, he finished ahead of the top four.

Pastrana is 140 points out of 10th. He'd need to make up 10 points on Kligerman every single race to claw that back. I don't see it happening.

Pastranas fan base is essentially 14-18 year olds who have the attention span of a flea....They love him when he's always winning on bikes etc....How long will they hang around as NASCAR fans to watch him run 26th every week?
