After 21 of 45 drivers Derrike Cope was on the pole for the Cup race at Darlington...

The 22nd driver (Kasey Kahne) has since bumped Cope from the pole, but Cope is 2nd after 25 drivers.

RealOne is having technical difficulties, so I had to rely on Jayski's page. According to Jayski's:

Say what you will but that is awsome for Cope and Arnold Motorsports. I hope they run good all weekend and have that rjunk.com dodge up front all day!

I like the "NOT A MISPRINT!!! on top of the qualifying order chart

Cope 5th? I saw that and like to fell out of my seat. Next question is how many laps will Ruttman run. I say 5.

Well Gollum, I'll see your five and raise you another 2....I'll say 7 total. B)

7? Y'all are too rich for my blood. I can't go that high!

I say Ruttman runs one half of a lap and then vanishes mysteriously but if Derrike Cope qualifies in front of you, then you've got a problem.... a very very serious one.

I just hope he doesn't do anything stupid for the few laps he is in the front group

Even a blind squirrel finds an acorn now and again.

Cope, like many before and since his debut, has made a few stupid moves.

The dumbest (IMO) was in the fall race,1987, at Charlotte when he took out Jimmy Means within the first twenty laps by being overly aggressive.

Jimmy Means was driving the Folger's car for Hendrick Motor Sports as a substitute for the late Tim Richmond and had secured a top five qualifying effort only to be rewarded with a race ending wreck caused by Cope.

Hopefully Cope can keep things in check and not make any magnificent blunders leading to a pileup or taking anyone else out.
There is a reason Cope has been unable to secure a full time ride and the answer is forming his own team. In the situation of Cope and his driving career, a mans gotta do what a mans gotta do.
Hopefully he can do it without incident.

Maybe he'll prove everyone wrong and get a top 20, maybe even top 15, when was the last time he got in the top 20?
I give Ruttman 20 wait, does he have a pit crew? if not i say 2.

When is the last tiem Cope has finished on the lead lap?

Ruttman...... 8 is my pick.

I really don't know why Ruttman is letting his name get sullied by doing James Finch's dirty work. Ruttman is a very respectable racer who's now going to be remembered as Winston Cup field filler. Once that team does collect enough money to really race, you know Ruttman is not going to be in the car.

March 12, 2000 at Atlanta - Cope finished 19th.

Last top 10 was November 16, 1997 at Atlanta - Cope finished 5th (so it's also his last top 5.)

I agree Ruttman was a respectable driver. Right now his age is against him and for all we know, he might be doing this for (GASP) the money !!!!!!!!
Rutman is also smart enough to stay out of the way and not create a problem during his short paycheck run.
Where else can someone place a car on a race track, drive less than twenty laps and pull in then receive a check for thirty thousand dollars. Sure FInch may keep part of the money but Finch has another agenda. Finch wants to accumulate points for later in the season when he has plans to get a different driver out there and will need provisional starting positions.

Don't blame either of them. If they can pass inspection and qualify they earned the right to start the race and drop out then collect whatever prize money is available.

Could this our boy Jimmy? :)

I don't like James Finch either.......but, no one can say he's not a shrewed business man.
