I don't get a chance to see qualifying much but I noticed the cars parked diagonally along pit road at Darlington. Why do they do that? Is there a reason?

I'm just guessing, but maybe because they are pluging coolers into the front of the car they don't want them facing pit road.I think they should have them facing out on pit road so they don't have to back out.

Yeah but at least the wall isn't trying to back in at the same timeBack in, back out. You say Tomato, I say tomahto.
Do you also say potahto?Back in, back out. You say Tomato, I say tomahto.

I think it's because they can more easily fit the cars into the given space.
next...why do they park diagonally when under red flag conditions more often than not?
This would be my guess. From a safety perspective, having the cars backed in would put a crewman servicing the front of the car (hooking up cooling unit) near the line of traffic on pit road - especially during a Q session..I'm just guessing, but maybe because they are pluging coolers into the front of the car they don't want them facing pit road.

Yup, in case the car doesn't fire, they can bump start it.banking
