Hating my home phone

We must be on a chit list or somehow live in the right demographic area.
Just yesterday 5 political robo calls and one door knocker.
House phones are now unplugged, kids and family know to call our cells if need be.
Someday, some pol will realize all the calls, flyers, door knockers aren't going to sway voters who follow and know the issues.

I know what you mean, SST.

I'm looking for the button that allows me to opt out of EVERYTHING political since I've already voted. No TV ads, no phone calls, no nothing.

I've VOTED people, bug off.

No one calls me I don't have a land line.....hehehe and I live a rural area the dems wouldn't waste their gas to come out here....heheheh

Don't underestimate our power.

Whats a land line? Oh, a granny phone! LOL! J/K. I have a cell phone that I use for both personal and business, and I don't get any political calls. Although I do get Christians knocking at my door on Saturday morning wanting to know if I have accepted Jesus Christ as my savior. I usually try to be polite, but once or twice they try to come into my house uninvited and that's when I slam the door in their face.

We get them all the time too. Hate this time of year. Caller ID, and we don't answer the phone 90% of the time.

What's funny (and annoying) is when these robo-calls leave a robo-message on the machine, and it's so long it gets cutoff before the end.

I keep a land line because my husband and I both have some health issues.

Our cell phones are pay as you go because we don't use them enough to pay through the nose for contract phones.

BTW, I just joined the 21st century --- I got my DSL service today. Yippeeeee ! :beerbang:

Wow, now what to do with the #%#%# wildblue garbage? LOL!

No wildblue here ---- Hughes Net trash. I may have to wait, but I'm going to enjoy canceling the service. hehehe

I just did that a few months ago. It was great. They are going to offer you a few months free and all that to try to keep you from canceling.

Yep, they were standing on their heads to keep me on. Not a chance.
Their modem is already at the back door to go out to the trash.

But if I don't get political calls how can I tell a robo voice they are working for a moron?

DONOTCALL registry still allows calls from a business you've dealt with within the past 18 months, charities and of course from our beloved politicians,,,,,:sarcasm:

My experience is telemarketers will hang up immediately without answering if you ask who they are.

One thing I've done in the past --- when they ask "how are you today?"
I proceed to tell them --- at length. Just random ailments and treatments.

Another thing I like to do, is try and sell them something too. They start their sales pitch and I interrupt them and state that my grand daughter is selling something for her school and I was wondering if they would like to place an order. Doesn't take long and they are the ones ready to get off the phone.

OK, funny story about a telemarketer. A call was transferred to me at work, beacsue the person asked for me by name. The lady told me that one of my car warranties was about to expire. Asked her which one, she just asked me if i had cars. I argued back and forth a bit trying to get her to tell me which car it was, and after a while she said

"well sir, if you're just going to waste my time.."

But before she could get any further. I replied, "WASTE YOUR TIME!!??!! YOU CALLED ME AT WORK!!!!" Of course she hung up pretty quickly.

Got a call this morning from the police wanting me to vote to help legalize marijuana. Kind of weird they would want it legalized lol.

Lol that was either a sting or a very lazy police department.

The robo calls are annoying.

We had one politicians' aide knock on our door, and I was the one who answered it. :growl: She stated spewing the talking points only to be challenged on every single statement she made.

I think she sent our address to every candidate seeking political office and warned them not to go to that house. :( I wish more would show up, I had fun. :D

I wish these politicians would come out and do the dirty work themselves and talk to us voters face to face. I think they're too scared they might get a real ass chewing. Not to mention, I don't think this girl was expecting to run in to a left liberal in Tea Party Conservative Republican land. Poor girl's probably traumatized now. :lol2:

The robo calls are a way to avoid dealing with people like me.

When some politicians' office would call during election season, my parents would always give me the phone, pick up the other end and listen to the fireworks. :growl:

Of course, I enjoy the argument. I am a politicians worst enemy.

I dropped the number I've had for years and got MagicJack. Only a few people know that number and I've not had one robo call yet. :D

As long as we're trading stories about how to piss off the telemarketers and robo calls.

A guy calls and wanting to know what we watched on TV, he was taking a survey. So I said this.

"I watch porn all the time, nothing but porn."
"That's great so can I ask you some question?"
"You know, my favorite kind of porn is bestiality, a woman and a dog, or how about a gay guy and a horse?"
"Oh my..."
"Yep, there's nothing more beautiful than an animal ****ing a human."
*Click*

Ever since then, I have not received one phone call. :D

how do you like it? i've seen the commercials but you're the first person i know that's had it. does it support faxing?
We're into our second year and don't have any problems. Can't tell you if it supports fax, but you could probably find out from their site. I've heard there are problems with support, but I've not had any problems but if I did, I think that I'd just go buy another unit. For twenty bucks, you can't beat it.

thanks buckaroo, i think i'll give it a try. faxing isn't as important now as it use to be but on occasion is still needed. i hate paying for a phone i seldom use. it's just one of those necessities that you need to have on occasion but the cost riles me every time i get the bill.

Yeh I get that too, i meet them at the driveway before they get out of the car and tell them don't waste your time...cya!

Yep i always do that, ..."hello is so and so there"...me "who's this"...click

Hey Buck how is that? Me and the wife were thinking about getting it? OOps didn't see slows' post

It appears a lot depends on your location and/or internet connection. My brother lives north of Boston and loves it. My cousins, one in Pensacola Fla and the other, the one who says everyone needs killin', in Hooouston didn't care for it at all. Lousy voice quality was what I remember them saying.

YMMV

Thanks probably depends on your internet providers speed i guess.

Since they first came on the scene, they have improved in almost every aspect. I don't notice any difference in quality of the voice. BTW, the service I dropped was also VOIP, cable.

I dropped Comcast phone, after the bundle deal expired they wanted to charge me over $50/month for a phone I hardly use! They weren't even open to a little negotiation on the price , so I said buh bye. I live in a rurual area, where my house is, there is a big hill in my back yard so my service is spotty. If i walk 75 yards out my front door I have 4 bars, but inside my house I'm lucky to get 1 bar! Still waiting for the amplifier AT&T has promised for this area, that would solve the problem, but the town has been hagling with them over the location of course.

Worst mistake I ever made not claiming to be either a republician or a democrat. Phones been ringing off the hook all day. So far I have heard from Jerry Brown, Meg Whitman, Carly Fieriena, Barbra Boxer, Pete Stark, Obama, Sarah Pailin, Martin Luther King III. And its only 3 in the afternoon
