As if anyone doesn't know, Matt's magic number is back to 10. Seems all kinds of folks are reporting it now.
Aside from that though, title hopes for more drivers have been mathmatically dashed.
Any driver who now follows 15th place Robby Gordon is eliminated. The numbers say none of them can catch Matt.
Any driver who follows 8th place Bobby Labonte in the standings cannot catch Kenseth if Matt only starts each of the last 5 races.
Harvick is 267 points back with 5 races to go........No one has ever come from that far back in 5 races. Alan came from 278 back with 6 races to go in 1992, but with 5 races left he was 191 back.
But it should be noted that Alan's charge to win that title began right here at Martinsville that year. Bill Elliott, the points leader going in, lost the engine after 158 laps and finished next to last while Alan finished 5th gaining 87 points on Bill. In the next two races Alan gained 47 points at Wilkesboro when Bill ran poorly and a huge gain of 97 points the next week at Charlotte when the Budweiser Ford broke a suspension piece.
Kevin needs more help from the #17 camp to make a move.................lots more help.
