SILLY SEASON 2018

Ostracized if it were up to Racing Forums.
No driver on this site gets more irrational hate then Kasey it's like 17 cup wins means nothing.

Prolly in the 5 with quarters, a hood ‘n TV panel for LiftMaster to put their invisible name on for ten more "races."

If you put a gun to my head TODAY...as in right this second...and told me to make a prediction, I would say that next season Erik's in the 20 and Matt's in the 5 (and it wasn't Matt's decision to leave). I'm more confident about Erik in the 20 than Matt going to the 5...but I'm not willing to guarantee either scenario. Things are still extremely cloudy.
Where's Carl going to be buddy?!

I don't get it either. I get the criticism for his recent performance. Since 2014 he's been an also ran.

But some folks act like he's been a bum his entire career. You don't win 17 times at the premier level without being pretty good behind the wheel.

Greg Biffle is another guy I don't understand the hate/lack of appreciation for.

I've seen this hate from back when he was winning.

I think he still has potential to be successful and has years left of being a factor, but not in his current situation. The way that team ran at the end of last year, I thought they would be a top 10 team this year. Maybe it's the crew chief, maybe it's Kasey maybe it's a mcmurray at Roush situation. But maybe he could jump in the a new car next year and win consistently again.

I agree with this. I'm honestly surprised they haven't tried a crew chief change. Doesn't Darian Grubb work in the HMS shop right now? You would think Rick would try something like that before kicking the driver to the curb.

That said, it's obvious Kasey will be moving on. Could be best for both parties.

His tweet was really good for him. I'm not KK fan but for me it had seemed like he doesn't care, had no drive, no passion for the sport. Just hasn't vocalized it atleast not noticible enough for the non KK fan. Until his tweet the other day.

Been there when Bobby Labonte was still racing. People are real quick to write off talent when the driver quits winning. I know there were years there where I do think Bobby could have still been a winning driver, but he choose some bad teams to race for towards the end. I still wonder about that rumored RCR deal that never happened. I think if Bobby could have found his way there towards the end of his career he could have won some more races. I think Kasey is done with the 5, and that might not be a very bad thing if he can land on his feet with a decent team.

I really think Rodden needs to go, it's not working look what happened with Dillon sure it was fuel mileage but it was a different strategy. Sure they tried one at Dover by short pitting but that backfired.

I wouldn't mind seeing kasey in the 21,10, or 43 next year...considering all things ofcourse.

Of all those random rumors, Roush closing really catches my attention, just seems too big to be real. I can understand why RPM could be at risk of closure if they lose Smithfield. But Roush still has 2 teams with most of their season filled with sponsors in cup (Though them closing the 6 XFINITY team midseason certainly raises some red flags). Could things really be that bad financially for the team? Feels like it would take something like John Henry selling his stake in the team (A la MWR) or something along those lines to put it in that position. Has to be something else to that
It could be that Jack is fed up with the way John Henry is running things. Jack is for winning races and John is for taking profits. Henry is in charge of sponsors and they haven't done well in many a year.

I've seen this hate from back when he was winning.
Back then it may be because he was bullying a security guard. The old "Do You Know I Am" story
and that turned me off the punk.

He should go to RCR to fill the 27 if Menard leaves for Penske as rumored.
If Menard leaves where is he getting a sponsor?

Hard to say really. But RCR has had a bit better luck attracting sponsors than some other teams. Yes obviously they've had some pay drivers, but Richard has brought in his fair share as well. Just a thought and speculation on my part, I think they'd be a good fit

Yeah, Newman just debuted a Velveeta car on Race Hub today.

For more than 1 race, seems like more than a few. Good pick up for the 31 team

Yeah it is. As you said RCR does a good job of getting sponsors. I hate whats happening to Roush and the Xfinity program as Bubba has done his job, who ever is in charge of getting sponsorship in that camp isn't doing their job to well.

John Henry owns the Red Sox and the Boston Globe. Here's a look at one of his properties:

Attracting sponsorship for his ventures isn't a problem for Henry. I get that he's an easy scapegoat because he's an outsider but Jack has never been able to keep sponsors. The guy couldn't find and keep sponsors for Jeff Burton and Matt Kenseth.

It's been hard on Jack ever since they landed Viagra...

But ever since John Henry bought into Roush, he runs the business side of things. You can't blame Jack Roush for that. Taking the profits out also means there is no money to buy speed and the car is speed. The Roush/Yates engines seem OK in the other Ford cars.
Big difference selling baseball vs nascar racing.

How do we know that Mr. Henry runs "the business side" of Roush, whether or not the operation turns a profit and if it does, that Henry drains that profit out?

The guy owns the Red Sox, Liverpool FC, and the Boston Globe and made his fortune by trading commodities futures. He's a legitimate businessman and his ventures are generally successful. RFR's issues are due to problems that Jack has had for years.

Also, this whole "Fenway took control of the business side" thing is just false. Read the initial announcement: http://usatoday30.usatoday.com/sports/motor/nascar/2007-02-15-roush-fenway_x.htm. Henry is mostly an investor and seems to have little to no day to day control of RFR. Maybe Jack SHOULD get out of the way and let Henry run things. He knows how to hire the right people and might actually improve the team.

I say those things because I have read articles that stated such. Some are quotes from Jack Roush.
You don't have to accept what I say and I have no problem if you prove me wrong. Prove, not just stating your own opinion.

I didn't offer an opinion.

I asked questions. Your declarative statements, one of which has already been debunked above, are factual if they can be supported. I thought you might offer a link or something. Wrong again.

2007 announcement, things changed. Anyway I am not here to prove anyone wrong, I just stated a fact as I remember it.

Yeah Bobby just made some bad career choices. He had about 5 years where he was capable of winning after he left Gibbs, but wasted it driving for Petty (career suicide), then bounced around to some backmarkers. If he could've gone to an RCR or even DEI/Ganassi he probably had more wins left. It's a shame.

Lol at Henry running the business side of RFR..he's an investor and nothing more... RFR is small potatoes for him
When they say a person is in charge of.... what they mean is his people answer to him and he only makes a decision when the facts are in. Henry has HIS PEOPLE running the business side.
Small potatoes? Every investor has those and the goal is to make it the big deal.

No, his people are not in charge of sponsorships, sorry..

Here is an official document of the people named and hired to run specific departments. (2015)

Notice all the credentials ( The team has named Brian Cleek as senior vice president of sales and business development. Cleek brings over 12 years of proven partnership development experience, having worked for some of the most successful properties in professional sports, including the NFL, the New York Giants, ESPN, the Harlem Globetrotters and most recently the PGA of America and Ryder Cup.)
I guess those other sports are easier than Nascar because he can't seem to get minor sponsors to keep a team on the track.

FWIW the deal has Velveeta paying about $175K per race. That's less than JTG & Germain charge, and around what Front Row charges. Better than nothing though...
Geez, Allen, that's like Xfinity money.

Man that's low considering some cars get probably $750-$1mil per race. And CAT probably pays $500k a race I'd bet???

175K to be a primary sponsor? If that is what Gene Haas is being offered it is no wonder that he is writing the checks himself as that is chump change to him. The dominoes are falling and when Monster can sponsor the entire series for 20 million it will only drive down what the teams can charge.

If possible it would probably be cheaper to give Ryan the weekend off and dock his salary then to put the car on track.
