Top 10 Worst Drivers in Nascar

I've been thinking long and hard on this since I've been watching NASCAR since 1975. I'm pretty much sticking to Cup drivers. I almost have to break it down into different eras since some of these stuck around for a while and then were ushered in by a new group. Some of these from the 70's and 80's I hate to put on this list because many of them ran their own equipment.

Richard Childress
Frank Warren
Cecil Gordon
JD McDuffie
James Hylton
Buckshot Jones
Steven Wallace
Jimmy Means
Kirk Shelmerdine
Danica

Danica
Jennifer Jo Cobb
Johanna Long
Amber Cope
Angela Cope
Milka Duno
Chrissy Wallace
Erin Crocker
Tammy Jo Kirk
Tina Gordon

You only wanted 10 , right ?
At least you didn't put Sarah Fisher in there. If she had a proper ride, I'd give her a good shot at having some success in NASCAR. She's 10 times the racer that Danica is.

Oh a hundred times . Danica is just awful .

I have to disagree about James Hylton at least late 60s and early to mid 70s Hylton. With the exception of Buckshot Jones, and Stephen Wallace I really don't think we can know, most never had the hardware to demonstrate much.

Kevin Conway
Christian Fittipaldi
Hideo Fukuyama

James Hylton
Ted Christopher
Wally Dallenbach
Steven Wallace
Norm Benning

I assume you're referring to the 1960s and 1970, not when James was in his own 60s and 70s. :p

Kyle Petty won several races and had a few top 5 points finishes. Worst driver? Hardly

Kyle Petty won at Rockingham and Dover, a bad driver does not pull that off.

Pretty sure I read somewhere that if one of the Chase championship formats (not sure which one) were applied to the years when he was racing, Kyle Petty would come out on top at the end of one season.

As much as I dislike the Chase, that's not too shabby.

from racing reference:

Rank Driver (active drivers in Bold) Average finish Races
192 David Stremme 29.63 200
193 Landon Cassill 29.869 221
194 Cole Whitt 30.134 112
195 Tony Raines 30.256 180
196 Scott Speed 30.737 118
197 Michael Annett 31.298 104
198 J.J. Yeley 31.547 254
199 Mike Bliss 32.464 179
200 Michael McDowell 34.82 211
201 Josh Wise 35.083 156

klemmabyna, thanks for doing the research!

While the last three have worse average finishes than Yeley, he has at least 40 more starts / appx. 20% more starts than they do. Guess I'll jump on the J.J. bandwagon.

McDowell and Wise have parked at least half their races.

Yeley's been terrible in Cup. No doubt. Though he's actually out ran David Starr in the 44 and has done respectable in the 44 if we even take that as any consideration.

Surely there must be something wrong with these stats . This make it seem like she's not among the 10 Worst Drivers . This just ain't right :(

Relax, if only 201 drivers have entered 100 plus events there are 40 drivers with worse stats than Danica
And her stats was only posted after you drew attention to her, she may have even been mentioned otherwise in regards to those stats. Seriously she is not relevant to all time worst 10 drivers list.

what about this?

Rank Driver (active drivers in Bold) DNQs
1 Dave Marcis 102
2 J.D. McDuffie 96
3 Derrike Cope 87
4 Morgan Shepherd 85
5 Carl Long 75
6 Kevin Lepage 64
7 Delma Cowart 57
8 Mike Wallace 55
9 Kenny Wallace 53
10 Mike Bliss 53
I'm sorry, but I can't accept any 'Worst Driver' list that included Marcis, McDuffie, Shepherd, or Kenny. Most of those guys were active back when a lot more than 43 drivers were trying to make the field every week. Most of those DNFs came toward the ends of their careers.

End of great careers in underfunded equipment . Mostly these guys built their own cars and raced them with beer buddies as pit crew . Pretty sad to see them referred to as 'worst drivers' .

to be honest, I don't believe stats can be used for any "best"/"worst" lists. especially DNQ's now that the majority of the field is locked in.

I only post stats to stir debate and support my own opinions!

"There are three kinds of lies: lies, damned lies, and statistics."

Winning 2 D500's and Talladega negates him from that list IMO
I could have won those races with the DEI cars he was driving. They were so far ahead of all the other teams on the plate tracks.

Yes , but you didn't . I could've walked on the moon , but I didn't .
Regardless he's still up high on my list.
Sorry to hear you didn't get to walk on the moon. Maybe they'll let you tag along the next time they go.

Too old. Mikey and Kyle Petty are pretty high on my list of drivers I don't like . Not because of what they were as drivers , but what they were like after they retired.
