New 'Elite Club Division' in NASCAR Europe

A racing series where qualifying sessions are the race.... Wow.

There's plenty of racing based on individual vehicles being timed over a defined course.

"These won't be races per se, but track sessions where speed and lap time consistency will be crucial. Each driver will be offered 90 minutes of track time at each of the four events. Series' officials will determine a "Reference Lap Time" for the track and the objective for each Elite Club driver will be to constantly produce lap times that are as close as possible to the Reference Lap Time."

That's the bit I don't get. It's not the fastest who wins, it's the most consistent? They're right; those won't be races, per se or otherwise.

I'm aware of that, but usually TT racing and NASCAR are worlds apart. The curved grading is fkn weird too.

Hello DUN24, the ELITE Club Division is meant as the entry level of NWES for drivers with little or no experience, just to have a "competitive" taste of what it's like. It will mean fun for the gentleman and training for the youngster at very little cost. For door-to-door racing there are the ELITE 2 and ELITE 1 divisions :)

It's a weird system. Before reading the article, I assumed it was going to be like Rally racing where you get one shot across multiple segments. Certainly not something that will attract spectators, but maybe this is just meant as a fancy way to introduce more European drivers to NASCAR-style stocks?

Precisely. The other divisions, ELITE 1 and ELITE 2, will race as usual: two 45-minute races per weekend.

Think of it of a way to introduce very young drivers to NASCAR and to let anybody have fun at very low cost

Hey, GLG, welcome to the forum! Can I assume from your name that you're already familiar with another, much older Forum? :D

Thanks Charlie! :)

Hope to be able to contribute, especially on the Euro side :)
Outstanding! We don't get many European posters; understandable, since NASCAR isn't that popular over there. There are half a dozen Brits who are here on and off, but not many from the continent / mainland.

Bet I'm the first Italian ahah. NASCAR's popularity is definitely growing in Europe, especially in countries like Germany, where there is a very good NSCS broadcast. And also thanks to the NASCAR Whelen Euro Series

You forget the German broadcast is not available free-to-air, which is the big problem. Sky Germany has only 4-5 million subscribers, and they don't subscribe to Sky for watching NASCAR, they subscribe for watching Football (Soccer) . I don't know how the ratings for NASCAR are, but I think it's not more than 50,000 people that watch. And I never read about NASCAR in a newspaper that isn't specialized on racing. I always watch the Cup races on Premier Sports on the Internet.
And the Euro Series IMO is not very popular. No really famous driver, just 6 racing weekends a year and only one oval race. It'll be intersting to see how big the crowd at the stand-alone event at Hockenheim will be.
And I don't think the ,,Elite Club Division'' will work. Most Gentlemen drivers will be more interested in having battles with other drivers than running on their own.
