Mom made stew and called it "surprise stew". One of the kids asked what kind of meat it was and Mom said, "it is venison."

The kid looked up and said, "venison? What is that?"
Mom replied, "think of what I call Dad sometimes."

One kid turns to the other and said, "Spit it out Huey! It's an a**hole!"

something I would here in my household. Very funny

Mom made a "squirrel" dish once when my Uncle had knocked off a few squirrels - eaten a few - and blessed us with one...Mom said, just to be polite "Thanks George".

I remember she said quietly to me "don't eat that" ;)

As an Accountant for the CDC (Centers for Disease Control) - I generally just count money. But I do get to see all the emails about diseases and stuff. The equivalent of "Mad Cow" is basically about folks eating squirrel brains in Tennessee. There is a "pocket there" where folks are eating squirrel brains and going crazy...dying and such.

Bottom line is - if you can avoid it - don't eat any kind of brains - it's just not worth it.

I usually go for the meat not the brains. At least not from squirrel

True story. As a kid, 9 or 10 or so, I had a rabbit. Bugs, what else. We moved about a mile from a rural community to a residential area. I'd ride down and feed Bugs everyday except one day he was gone!! Someone broke into his cage and stole him!!. My Grandpa, he used to take me squirrel hunting was there. He was a town cop so he launched a fell investigation.
That night we had stew. When I said it was good and asked for more my Dad ran to the bathroom and threw up. That was strange, it was good stew...
Wasn't until I was in my 20's that my Dad finally told me Bugs was the guest of honor for dinner that night!

My dad used to hunt and eat squirrels, I would never touch the stuff. Dont eat Ducks or Rabbits either.

No reason to ever eat ducks or squirrels, unless they quit making cows.

Don't F' with Canada Geese either - unless you are good at it :p.

We had a guy here at Lake Louise who was a fairly recent Immigrant. Probably Eastern European. He could barely speak English but I know a few words from various other languages + plus he grew tomatoes in pots like me so we "conversed" occasionally. For an older guy (late 60's - early 70's) he was in pretty good shape.

Thing was (apparently) it bothered him that the geese were just so semi-tame and "available" and Geese must have been hard to come-by where he was from. So he planned it out and at dawn one day he snuck up and grabbed a sleeping 30 pound Canada Goose by the neck and tried to "wring it's neck" so he could pluck it and cook it.

I didn't visit him in the hospital...but he lived.

Word was he got all scratched up and almost lost an eye.

No word on the condition of the Goose - but it's likely still around here ;)

Ya know why they call it Rump roast?
Nobody would eat it if they called "cow a$$"!
