Bristol to host YUUUUGE U.S. Short Track Nationals race in 2017!

What month Andy?

Bristol Motor Speedway will host the U.S. Nationals of Short Track Racing on the weekend of May 19th-21st, headlined by Late Model Stock Car, Super Late Model and Pro Late Model racing.

and then ends with

The Super Late Model, Pro Late Model and Late Model Stock Car races will be held on Sunday, November 21st. BMS will provide details on tickets, camping and general information at a later date. Be sure to check back regularly at bristolmotorspeedway.com for updates.

OK so it is May. I won't edit my post so you can make the correction in your article, Andy.

I like the two-day format. I like lights. I like modifieds. I like all the sanctioning bodies involved. Apparently it's 100 lap races for the three Late Model classes.

11 hours to Bristol from Connecticut. :booya:

I did correct it. ****, long ass week.......and it ends with breaking news............

This sounds like a kick-ass event

You'd probably enjoy it more. That looks like a fun event.

There's always that one guy for whom nothing is ever good enough. Congrats on being that guy. Life must suck for you.

In MIS15's defense, I remember him defending the hell out of the new racing procedure.

Looks like a great event with room to grow.

question for the asphalt followers: with this being scheduled in the middle of point racing season, will other sanctions take the week off to give the racers an opportunity to attend?

I would think most race teams would love the chance to race at Bristol.

This maybe the event to get me to Bristol for the first time.
Really good value for my racing budget.

Car counts so high Bristol has threatened to cap off the number of entries...but no entry lists or any news about anything since over a month ago:huh:

Have you heard anything @AndyMarquisLive ? You're always in the loop with these kinda things...

I have been looking to and cant find anything. I have this event penciled
on the calendar to be my first Bristol trip. I thought it would be the Outlaw
late models but now I don't think so.

OOOps - I just found what I needed at the link above.

Some could show up since they are off that weekend
and in the Tenn. area the weekend before.

OK, there is also a pavement short track class in the midwest called outlaw late models. Series such as OSCAAR, etc... use outlaw late models.
World of Outlaws late model series is dirt late models, none of those drivers will be at the Bristol race... Doesn't matter that they will be in the area, the issue isn't getting to the track, the issue is having a car to race in.. Dirt super late models are completely different from asphalt super late models

Glad that's cleared up. I know they have done dirt before . When I think late model my mind goes
directly to dirt.

Looking forward to it even more. I can do with out the dust theses days.

Yeah, I do realize that they did the dirt covered thing years ago. Would be cool to see them try that again.
Anyway, the stuff racing at Bristol this time is all asphalt. Cars that look like this:

There we go, now we are getting somewhere.

Any word out there on how big of an event this will be?
Any drivers interested in being on Bristol?

500+ cars...entry lists were posted awhile back on the CRA website. Notable NASCAR guys include Bubba Wallace, John Hunter Nemacheck, Erik Darnell, Steven Wallace (I believe it's the Steven Wallace...pretty common name though).

Thanks Speedbowl. I will go look at the CRA website.

And...I'M GOING TO BRISTOL!!! Pulled the trigger at a Comfort Inn 25 minutes north of the track. This event was just too sweet to pass up, for a number of reasons. Bristol has been on my bucket list and now it's happening! In exactly one month, I will be wearily driving into a hotel parking lot, very very far from home, but smiling knowing that I will visit Bristol the next day.

My wildest NASCAR fantasy meets a short track fan's dream...and I. Can't. Wait.

Great! It will be my first time too! Praying for good weather. If its anything like
this weekends forecast , I will pull the plug. But are you kidding, 500 cars
trying to get their class crowns. You know it will be a first for a lot of those
drivers to be on that kind of banking. Over the 2 days I want to sit in all corners of the track.

Andy - Other than the "NASAR" names, who are some drivers to watch or look out for?

Here is a link for the entries:

I'm not Andy but I'm a big short track racing fan as well, so I can mention a few who I think are ones to watch.
In Super late models:
Dalton Armstrong (just won his first ARCA race Sunday at Salem), Ben Rowe (one of the top late model racers out of New England), Brandon Setzer, Harrison Burton (Jeff Burtons son, won the K&N Pro Series race at Bristol in March), Eddie McDonald (Another big name from New England, even won a K&N Pro series race at Bristol a couple of years ago), Bubba Pollard (wins a lot of big super late model races), Travis Braden (won a lot of CRA races and even an ARCA win at Indianapolis), Brian Campbell (won the CRA race at Toledo last month), Noah Gragson (won 3 or 4 K&N races last year) , Stephen Nasse, Raphael Lessard (last years CARS tour champion).

I'm not familiar with too many of the LMSC and Pro late model drivers, but there are some good names on those lists for sure.

Very good Toledo. Just trying to look up and become
familiar with notables before I get there. Thanks !

Sounds like its gonna be a pretty cool event! Enjoy!
If you like it, try to take in some big races at some local short tracks! Lots of good short track races going on every weekend.

I am no stranger to local short tracks. I probably have a 100 under my belt since the mid 70's. Dirt and asphalt.
My first race was in '66 at a figure 8 track in Atlanta Ga and I have been hooked ever since. Something
about the leaded fuel and burning rubber smell attracted me somehow. This will be my first time
at Bristol and that's what I am most excited about. 2 straight 8 hour days of a place I have only seen
on tv and 500 cars, that sounds like a pretty good show.

Of the close to 60 Late Model Stocks entered, I've heard at least 20 of them won't actually be there.

This has become one of the biggest controversies in short track racing. Bubba Pollard's been pretty vocal about thinking this race is a bad deal.

20 out of 500 is the way I look at it. Still should be a show to behold.
Even seeing 4 bangers and street stocks on that track will be cool.
There are going to be a lot of teenage drivers whose dreams
will be coming true to be on that track. I just hope all divers have
a hans device. I still don't see enough of those at small tracks.

Don't know who Pollard is.

I myself think Bristol is not a short track when it comes the Hot Rod's that will be racing. The last time I was there I was ready to leave after 150 laps and did so around lap 300, that is with 43 Cup cars going flat out fast. I hope they get the car's that have said they are going to be there but how hard is it to file an entry from when it only cost you a stamp? Hence how many car's will truly show up? I am not trying to be Negative Nancy and have thought about going and I hope everyone that goes has a great time but for me I don't think it will be a good show due to the factors that I have mentioned. I guess the final product will be known in a couple of weeks and I hope it turns out to be everything they are striving for.

Well, bad news. I just cancelled my Bristol trip. I have a leg issue that
got a little worse at Talladega and I need to move that budget to the chiropractor bill.
He fixed it last time. So my dreams of going to Bristol will need to be delayed a bit.
Those that go - have a blast.

Looks like I will opt for a ppv package from Speed51 for that weekend.

That sucks!!! Priorities, right? I'll have fun for you and if I get Bristol off my bucket list this year maybe I'll let you get it off your list next year ;)

Kinda surprised at what @AndyMarquisLive is saying. The Super race (when you add in the qualifying race) pays out $1,150 to start. That's good money. $600 to start is good money for a LMSC race. I don't get Andy's math though...if 53 cars entered the LMSC race and 20 aren't going that's 33 cars so everyone gets a guaranteed starting spot. I'd expect more to show up since it's the easiest class to make the field. Doesn't seem right to me.

If the weather is nice I bet you'll see 75%+ of what you saw on the entry list. Everyone who's anyone is gonna be at this race. I don't want to miss it and I bet the drivers don't want to miss it either.

If you're spending $20,000+ to run the race... there are a lot of marquee drivers who are sitting this one out. In fact, Bubba Pollard and Lee Pulliam, who are the statesmen of their respective disciplines in many ways, aren't running.

I might go. I'll be at Franklin County Speedway on May 20th so I might go ahead and go to Bristol on Sunday.

The SLM's might break the Cup record today or next weekend. 14.659 is the fast time ran this morning by Chanler Smith. 14.573 is the Cup record.
