They are actually slightly overachieving, any positive number would indicate your picks are doing better than expected and a negative would indicate you are getting a poor return on your pick.....so my picks are underachieving? I hate math
Thanks @pjmolo That shows that my basement picks worked out fairly well so far.And now for something completely different . . .
As a mid-season evaluation of the game to date, I've done a one-time upgrade to the driver pick spreadsheet in an attempt to show each players' return on their "investment" in a particular driver.
Basically, it's just a way to weight the standings based upon race results as compared to the quality of drivers used, as determined by the somewhat arbitrary Yahoo Fantasy Auto Racing game distribution of drivers.
With this concept, an A list driver is expected to finish at least 10th, a B list driver is expected to finish at least 20th, and a C list driver is expected to finish at least 30th.
Based upon a driver's actual finish as compared to his expected finish, that driver is then assigned plus, minus, or zero "return on investment" (ROI) points for each race.
For example, an A list driver gets zero points for finishing 10th, as expected, plus one point for finishing 9th, or minus one point for finishing 11th.
For each player, the ROI points from each race are totaled up and then divided by the number of races in which that player made a pick.
The result of this calculation is an overall "expected finish factor" (EFF) for each player, with higher numbers being better than lower numbers.
Not surprisingly, the expected finish factor standings are, for the most part, quite different from the standings showing just raw points to date.

I am really glad you took time to do this pjmolo. Its given me the nudge to do what I
have wanted to do since Talladega. Something I have learned about myself is I hate having to pick
someone I have no interest in and having to root for them because of my weekly pick.
A live, learn, make a change, experience.
So, effective today, please remove my name or insert no picks for the rest of my season.
I need to get back to rooting and supporting my 4 favorite drivers , main one being Chase E.
Playing the Yahoo one , I can always have a favorite 4 somewhere in my weekly picks.
Good luck to the rest of you and again thanks pjmolo for doing this! You are an excellent commissioner!

Burned 7 front-runners early.Dude, you are in 2nd. Maybe just try making a pick early in the week and then forget about it. I hate Kyle Busch and I picked him last week, but I definitely didn't root for him. It's kind of like insurance in a way if your hated driver does good and you picked them, you benefit and if they crash you benefit because you hate them. Now, if they do good you don't benefit at all.
Not my cup of tea. I will enjoy watching though ! Probably whyBurned 7 front-runners early.
He'll do better next year.
I usually stubbornly wait until I see this post from you to turn mine in, but I managed to beat you by a few hours this week lolHey kids, don't be a dunce.
Get your pick in before tomorrow's deadline and you'll be able to hang out with the cool kids that have got their pick in already . . .
Woohoo 21st now haha
I'm confident my pick this week will get her first ever top 5 finish! It's gonna happen!
As you might have read in an earlier post to this thread, @Hotrod has decided to resign from the game.
However, so as to not let his points to date (second place in the standings) go to waste and to let me get a little more involved with the fun stuff, I've decided to inherit his points and take over making picks for him.
As I think I've said once before, it's good to be King . . .

NOOOO. ARRRRGGGHH.Aaaaand my pick wrecks in practice. That's more like it!
Good, I shouldn't have any trouble passing him/you then.As you might have read in an earlier post to this thread, @Hotrod has decided to resign from the game.

Yup.Give me those Checkers
Good to see how 4th place @SlicedBread22 has demonstrated that it's possible to remain in the game even with a "NO PICK" week (he has two).
The way he's going, it's possible that he could be the leader going into Homestead with 3 "NO PICKS", fail to make a pick for Homestead thereby causing his removal from the game, and still have fewer total points than anyone else.
Damn I'm cursed now! After the Pocono race I wrote:
In the four races since then that he's made a pick, @SlicedBread22 has averaged 37.5 points per race, including picking the 39th place finisher in each of the last two races. During that time he's dropped fifteen spots to 19th place.
Way to jinx a guy, eh ?
So, let's see how @Michfan has been doing lately . . .
In a nutshell, he remains the leader for the eighth consecutive week after having picked the winning driver (Hamlin) at Loudon, making it three weeks in a row that he's picked a top 10 driver.
Additionally, @Michfan has increased his lead over second place to a season high 72 points and now appears to be a cinch to win the game's championship for 2017.
In fact, I've taken the liberty of having his name etched onto this year's championship trophy.
In addition to @Michfan, congrats to @Snappy D, @AdoubleU24, and @Johali, who also picked race winner Denny Hamlin.
All together, thirteen players picked a top 10 driver this week. Not too shabby.
Biggest upward mover this week was @UpNorth who, by picking fourth place finisher Matt Kenseth, moved up four spots to 9th place.
Moving in the other direction, @R Clarence dropped four spots to 13th place, no thanks to a 37th place finish by his A list pick, Joey Logano.
Recent upward trends show @2 Sweet moving nine spots (from 11th to 2nd) in the last five weeks, @DUN moving seven spots (from 15th to 8th) in the last three weeks, and @UpNorth moving five spots (from 14th to 9th) in the last two weeks.
Way to play the game fellers.

Yep. Same for me.You know you've been battered and bruised this year when you pick the winner and don't move an inch in the standings
