try that out and see if you can get more fans to come out cause I know the racing would be better as racing on the roadcourses has been great in nascar the last few years.

agree or disagree?

Except there was that time F1 ran on the road course and had fourteen cars pull off the grid before the start because of exploding tires.

Disagree, I'm not sure what keeps fans from this race. Track itself should sale tickets, NASCAR race is just a plus. I don't think a road course is the answer though. Interested to see what the later date does for the race next year but of its that open I might think about making the trip if I can find a good deal on tickets.

Nascar has had tire problems themselves at indy with that one year where they had to throw the yellow every 10 laps to keep the tires from blowing now I don't know what would happen with the road course but Nascar should have the drivers do a test there to see how it goes and if it goes well have a race there to see what happens cause it can't be anyworse then the racing is at indy these days and it might get some fans back.

That's sort of why I brought it up, because the exploding tires at the '05 USGP basically killed F1 at Indy (it was off the sked completely by '07), and destroyed what US fanbase it had at the time. And given that NASCAR has its own exploding tire history on the oval, who's to say running the road course would allow them to run a compound that would be raceable and durable enough to avoid another competition caution fest like '08?

I mean I don't know how it would go but they ever do decide to do it then Nascar should hold a test there first to see it goes and if the tires can hold up and the drivers like it then try it out for a year.

Oh, yeah, definitely a tire test first, especially since running the road course (most likely) means running the track clockwise, which shifts a lot of the load (especially in in road course thirteen, aka oval one) to the left rear. (which were the main culprit in the F1 disaster)

Add, then run the race under the lights, that'll add a couple more thousand that have no interest in sitting directly under the sun in 100 degree heat. Plus a cooler surface might allow a few more passes. Or scratch the whole thing, because their roval is quite possibly the the worst road course ever conceived. Zero room for passing, the sight lines suck, the road course is shorter than the oval, there are dozens of better road courses already out there, and no one bothers to shows up for the Indy gran prix.

I believe the weather should be better, but nobody is going to move any buildings so you can see the race. The roval at Charlotte and the ducts on the Xfinity cars took out any thoughts of the Indy road course.

The fact that the racing is usually not very good there and not being able to see anything if you go in person. Plus it's usually hotter than the devil's balls there, not sure if the move to September will help in that regard.

I agree as it is quite likely that it will still be very hot in Sept for the next race. I have spent some very hot days at the track during the month of May during the CART days so if weather is truly a problem running around the first of May or beginning of October may be better. JMO but I don't think the weather is much of an issue as I went to the real Southern 500 for many years and the place was full and it was hotter than blazes. Also Indy was just as hot when 350K attended the race as when 25-30K do now.

JMO, but I think it is important to Nascar to save face as this race once rivaled the Daytona 500 in purse winnings and prestige. If I was Nascar and wanted to be economical with the truth I would blame everything on the weather and concern for driver and fan safety and leave IMS for good. They could make some vague reference to possibly returning to IMS if lights were installed with absolutely no intention of doing so.

There are many other tracks that could fill Indy's date and put on a much better show so I believe it is time to stop beating a dead horse and trying to make Indy something it can't be. Having a handful of people show up to a historic track is an embarrassment to Nascar and the track and a mercy killing needs to be done for the betterment of everyone. JMO.

The racing is fine in my opinion and alot of people are picky about how the racing should be. Never been to the track so I dont know the sightlines and I'm not sure if that's a problem during the Indy 500 but they show up for it. Now I'm never one to complain about the heat either as I'll still wear a sweatshirt in 80° weather if there is a breeze so while I can see heat being a factor I don't think it's a big one, at least not to me. I hope the later date sales better but like I said if its that open I'll make the trip, only about a 3 and a half hour drive.

JMO, but I think if you have never been to the Brickyard it is worth the trip just to check out the sights, smells and history. It is true that the sight lines are poor but if sit in the front stretch in front of the pits it is fun seeing the cars make stops. Once is probably enough but there is no better time to go then now.

Indy isn't going anywhere, it has the second largest purse in both series, and purse racers all show up. It pulls big numbers on TV. in both series. They hit on something with the Xfinity cars. It's a good direction for the cup cars to look at for a solution on a track that hasn't done anything to help the Nascar racing there but take the money. Not saying the Cup race was bad, but it was shaping up to be what it always was, before it got real untypical. The Xfinity was a typical race but the difference was it happened at Indy and had the closest finish in history.

as far as laps led with either of those types of cars there isn't much difference. In fact this newest car is where the lopsided leads have come from. Gordon 2014, led 40, Busch 2015, 2016, 164, and 149 This year different story Kahne led only 12, but Kyle led 87 before he crashed.

They'll never run the road course.

My bet is at least part of the Xfinity package is implemented for the Cup race next year. Whether that alone is enough to help revive this event, I don't know. But there's almost nowhere to go but up from here. If the 500 was revitalized the 400 can be too.

I really hope they never try to run the roval, the Indy Car race on it is boring and I dont think the Cup guys would put on a better show with the cars as they are right now. I hope they do everything possible to fix the racing on the oval and if they cant, just gracefully take it off the schedule. ( I for one was excited for yesterday's race and thought it was a good show I was entertained all the way through.) I dont think they will ever stop running there because the track is a big deal to the drivers and it is a prestigious race no matter how crappy you think the show is. Drivers/Teams want to win there, It's Indy.

I'm not sure what your point is. Plenty of other series have run the infield successfully multiple times since then.

The point is that there's no foolproof way to run Indy. The place just isn't gentle on tires.
Racing is never foolproof.

Beyond that, the NASCAR tire issue on the oval, the only real racetrack at that venue, has been solved for years.
