I kinda fell off the Formula E bandwagon but this weekend might be worth a look
since its the season ending (double) race in NY.

It's difficult for me to take a series seriously when it runs predominately on big city street courses. That sends me the message that marketing the technology and the 'experience' takes precedence over the racing itself. If not, then why not run purpose-built road courses?

The cars are too slow and they'd use up energy too quickly on road courses. With Gen2 debuting for the 2018-2019 season in the fall they'll just be getting to around or slightly above F3 straight-line speeds. There wouldn't be as many opportunities for regenerative braking either.

For some reason I have in my head that I heard that they are getting
closer to having a battery make one full race. That will be interesting if so.
The electric whine of the motors grates my nerves though.

I hear ya. Its the sound even on tv that annoys me. I have forever
kept about 20 packs of ear plugs in my race day back pack. Nothing drives
me crazier than seeing anyone at the track , especially kids, covering
their ears with their hands.

Yep, more power and they'll be able to last the whole race. Although it'll be timed now, 45 minutes + 1 lap I think. They look like the Batmobile pretty much too.

Yeah, mostly Keaton. It's the halo and the fenders, especially the tailfin rear ones. A color other than purplish black / blackish purple would have reduced the impression. Maybe Bruce Wayne was ahead of his time.

Got too busy this weekend to follow this race. Oh well, it happens.
Need to go find the results and see some vids.

Maybe some Keaton, some Affleck. It sure as hell doesn't look like any single-seater I've seen before.

Aftr watching some of this weekend's racing, I definitely prefer the new model over the current one. The front end on the current car looks like the radar antennas on a WW2 bomber. I've seen cell towers with less hardware mounted on them. Looks like two box kites mating.

I watched Saturday's race. It wasn't bad, very competitive actually, but I just get bored at how slow and quiet the cars are. There's no sense of speed still and it honestly makes me a little sleepy. But there's still no denying that the quality of the teams, drivers, and OEMs involved is very high - and will only get higher.

I'll be interested to see how much quicker Gen2 looks in action.

I wasn't bothered by the lack of engine sound, and I expect relatively low speed on a street course anyway. I couldn't get into it for one of the same reasons I can't get into an F1 race.

I can't tell who's driving which car or which one the announcers are talking about. The numbers aren't easily visible on the cars at speed, but then numbers aren't used on the scoring ticker anyway. I don't know many of the drivers' names, so having just the first three letters of their names on a ticker doesn't do me much good. The paint schemes are distinct enough, but it's nearly impossible for this infrequent watcher to make a connection between which driver is in each of them.

If can't tell who's who, I don't have much reason to watch.

It's the annoying engine sound plus I could hear the sound when they went over the bumps. Weird.
