The 2018 Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series has come to an end and by my calculations six predictions posted prior to the start of the 2018 season proved to be correct.

Consequently, each of those six correct predictions is eligible to be considered as the most bold prediction of the year. The decision as to which one is the MOST BOLD is up to you.

Note that multiple part predictions that are only partially true are not eligible.

In following the precedent set in previous years, each member of the board can vote one time and one time only. (Sorry, no "vote early and often" balloting is allowed).

Keep in mind that you can change your vote at any time until the voting window closes in seven days.

Also, feel free to plead a case for any one of the predictions if you think it's deserving, or against if you don't think it is. It may be just enough to sway someone's opinion. Good luck to the six correct prognosticators.

The entire list of predictions, and an evaluation of each, is as follows:

Have to go with @Get That 88 Up There !! With JJ going winless!

And a big thanks to @pjmolo for putting this game on this season.. between this and the pick em game you've made this year interesting for many board members! Thanks for all your hard work!

I've always loved this game.. this game is how I first ever found this forum.. Just before the start of the '13 season I googled NASCAR predictions and found @dpkimmel2001's thread. The rest is history.. I always get sentimental when I see this game. I thoroughly enjoy this forum and the people here and look forward to being here for years to come.

Oh... and JOEY DID IT!!!!!

Much as I want to go with Matt, I don't find it that surprising he surfaced somewhere, esp. in a part-time role for only half a season.

I agree that Jimmie going winless is quite a surprise.

However, to me Chase getting more wins than the rest of HMS includes Jimmie's futile season, so I'm going with that one.

Honorable non-mentions to Furniture Row closing, Jimmie and Chad divorcing, and BZF out on his ear.

Gotta be @Snappy D

That was the most bold prediction by a country mile
I'm voting for Snappy for sure. I mean, he nailed it... not only that Kenseth would return, but the exact car he would be driving! And he had half a season in the car, not just a fill-in for an ill or injured driver. Snappy FTW.

A 17 year career defined by these numbers.....

0,3,3,8,4,5,10,7,7,6,2,5,6,4,5,5,3 wins per year since entering this sport. Yeah, sure there's a zero win season in there but heck, he only ran 3 races that first season. Not a hint of a winless season heading into his 18th year, That's why I went with the Double J prediction.

Should I have a campaign slogan if we are putting this to vote?

Couldn't hurt.

Also, being at the top of the ballot should work in your favor.

And you might want to consider running some campaign ads on Thanksgiving Day during the football games.

I'm sure that there's got to be some good dirt on your main competitor (@Get That 88 Up There !!) that you can dig up somewhere . . . .

A few numbers that maybe should have given us a heads up as to Johnson's decline in 2018.

Laps led: from 737 in 2016 to 217 in 2017 (only 40 in 2018)
Top tens: from 16 in 2016 to 11 in 2017 (11 also in 2018)
Top fives: from 11 in 2016 to 4 in 2017 (only 2 in 2018)

Having said that, I still consider it pretty damn bold to predict that Johnson would go winless in 2018 and it gets my vote.

I'm not surprised Chase won 3 and the rest won 0, nor am I overly surprised the 48 has started to struggle since you could see the writing on the wall in 2017 for many races as well.

The 78 team closing up shop is really shocking to me.

Vote for my prediction of Kenseth taking over the 6! A #IActuallyWasRightForOnce

Way to bring some attention to yourself.

Maybe you can get some of the Monster girls, or better yet, Matt Kenseth himself, to make an appearance on your behalf.

btw, your competition doesn't appear to have even checked in yet.

I at first went with Kenseth and after careful consideration changed to Chase.
Why? He did 3 times more than the rest of HMS.
Of course Harvick and Kyle did about the same.

Vote for my prediction of Jimmie going winless because let’s be honest who thought it would actually happen

My vote is for @SnappyD's Matt Kenseth prediction.

I'm not surprised Jimmie Johnson didn't win a race this year. He performance began to plummet last year.

-------------------

If @dman6233 had made his Reddit prediction here, I'd vote for it in an instant:

"Brian France is arrested for drunk driving and drug possession."

I’m voting for myself lmao. I already have BOLD predictions for 2019, one for Cup and Xfinity.

Still plenty of time to get your vote in, folks.

As I post this, only 36 votes have been cast so far.

Unlike balloting for local and nationwide elections, YOU CAN VOTE OVER THE INTERNET !

btw, ballots are counted electronically (somewhere outside the state of Florida) and the result is considered final, regardless of the margin of victory.

In the event that two or more bold predictions receive the exact same number of votes, there will be a runoff between those predictions to determine the winner.

To those that have yet to vote, what are you waiting for ?

Pretty impressed with a few of these predictions. I think Snappy D has got to be the obvious choice. The hottest of takes out of thin air and it came true.

I'm on tapatalk so I can vote in the poll but my vote is JJ going winless

Only several hours until the polls close.

Unless the fans of the Jimmie Johnson prediction make a huge late surge in their turnout, @Snappy D will have yet another plaque to add to his trophy case . . . .

CONGRATS TO @Snappy D !!

plaque - 2018 Bold Prediction champion - 1.jpg

All ballots have been tabulated and the results have been declared official, hanging chads be damned.

After having won the NASCAR Pick 'Em 2017 game last year, @Snappy D snags the championship of the NASCAR 2018 - BOLD Prediction game by making the insane prediction that recently retired Matt Kenseth not only would return to the Cup circuit at some point during the 2018 season, by that he would return in the #6 car before the season was half over.

A little less than half (47.6%) of the total votes cast went to @Snappy D's winning prediction. Second place in the balloting with 35.7% of the vote went to the visionary thought by @Get That 88 Up There !! that Jimmie Johnson wouldn't find his way to victory lane in 2018.

The only other prediction to receive votes, made by @AuzGram, was that Chase Elliott would get more wins than the rest of Hendrick Motorsports combined.

The list of winners of the game is as follows:

2011 - 46.2% - @dpkimmel2001 - Paul Menard will win his first Cup race with RCR in 2011

2012 - 50.0% - @FenderBumper - Brad Keselowski wins 5 or more races

2013 - 47.2% - @BobbyFord - Matt Kenseth will get 5 wins in the JGR #20

2014 - 72.5% - @Wrangler1 - HMS (5, 24, 48, and 88) WILL NOT be among the final four eligible for the title

2015 - apparently lost due to the Board crashing

2016 - 43.5% - @Zerkfitting - Tony Stewart will win a race this (2016) season

2017 - 56.1% - @SlicedBread22 - No Chevy's in the Final (Championship) Four

2018 - 47.6% - @Snappy D - Matt Kenseth is driver of the #6 car by the 2nd half of the year

See ya'll next year !!
