Yeah all of the new stuff is Li. I think I’ll get a whole new drill when these batteries die. I have my trusty pneumatic for the car stuff.NiCd are old technology. I'd look for a NiMh or Li direct replacement. Or get a set of Sub-C cells and solder them into the old batery case.
It comes down to needs verses expense.I must be ancient, I still use a Versapak drill.
Cordless drills have come a long way in a short period of time. I remember those days that you describe. They're a thing of the past. A DeWalt cordless, two batteries & charger will keep you running 24/7. Sure, a traditional will too, but not having to worry about dragging around an extension cord is a huge plus. Especially if you're doing roof work, decks or other large projects.I was given a new cordless drill when we bought this house. Seemed like every (*&^#$@ time I needed a (*&^%$# drill the *&^%$# batteries were dead. Back then there were warnings about leaving them on the charger all the time.
I never had any problems with my corded drill and if need be an extension cord.
That's what we call a swimming pool here.Used my cordless to build a backyard ice rink. Worked like a charm even in the cold Ohio weather
