Bonehead of the week: Phoenix I

Also Chase didn't jump the restart. Blaney spun his tires at the last second and Chase beat him to the line by an inch or two.

Darrell Waltrip when he said at the end of the second stage that kybu had already won the race. He slipped up and gave it away.

They have a drawing before the start to pick the days winner, Harvick was in the Porta-John when the deal went down :( Rumor has it that he ingested some fragments of a rear spoiler and it upset his tummy

My bonehead for the week is Chase Elliott for jumping the start of the race. He never could get back to the point to see if he could race Busch or Blaney for the win.
I am going to say the bonehead belongs more to the CC and the spotter for NOT calming him prior to the green flag. The kid is going full bore and you don't want to discourage that.
I don't agree with rule because it is to easy for the pole sitter to sucker someone on this one start of the race. The rule doesn't apply at any other time.

If Chase launches first and beats the leader, then call him a bonehead all you want, but come on ppl. Don't be blind.

I'd vote for Harvick's team for leaving him out on 2 tires for so long.

I'm not sure how much Blaney spun his stuff (he didn't look incredibly slow to me), but Chase surely knows where his nose is at in relation to Blaneys. He has to know his nose cannot cross the line before Blaney. The start of the race is treated differently than a restart, he knows that, or he'll remember now. It's pretty black and white on that imo.

It was close and not a huge bonehead move, but sure was costly risk early.

Losing a race before the first lap is over isn't a good thing to do, it's unfortunate that people often make mistakes.

Has it always been a drive thru penalty? I thought if you gave the lead back you were good

Chase for sure. Their race was ruined before it started. It’s a shame because the 9 was fast all weekend.

The 9 team for sure. Sure, the penalty did put them back in the pack but they still had a chance to get back to the front. Their pit strategy just wasn't that good. Should've pitted during that caution a few laps from the end of stage 1 and then stayed out at the end of the stage like the 18 team did. That would have given them back all the track position they lost.
