Time for the first ever IndyCar Classic at circuit of the americas. I have never been a fan of F1 here, but hopefully the IndyCar guys can put on a better show.

30k would be a good start, I think. MotoGP gets somewhere in the 50-70k range for the race, maybe? Saturday looks like it could be awfully rainy, but Sunday looks good. The weather at COTA in March can be hit-or-miss, as what's now known as Blancpain GT America has shown over the last few years.

The race should have more 'action' than F1 usually does, but it's still a very large circuit for IndyCar - one where the field could get strung out easily. It'll be interesting to see how that appears to the crowd.

Kaiser this week?

Man Juncos needs find some sponsorship for him. I'd really like to see him develop.

I would like the place a lot more if they would get rid of the hideous red and blue ribbon.

Put down some grass, artificial turf or at least some green paint instead.

COTA is actually the only race they have confirmed for him at this point I think. I bet he'll be in the 500 too but still.

Ricardo has said several times it's easier to find paying drivers for his new IMSA team. Binder helped fund a good number of their races last year, and he flipped series. At least they've got NFP on the sidepods this week.

I think it's cool that IndyCar is racing at COTA, but I am not sure I get what is "classic" about racing at a 7 year-old facility for the first time. They should have called it the IndyCar Instant Classic.

I dunno. Most 'Instant' things require adding water.

Has any 4-wheeled series ever put on a good show at this track? I just can't warm to it.

This track is forgiving and has plenty of room for error with out penalty.
To me , turn 1 is the most dangerous area for calamity.
Time for the rookies to go for it today. I think this race has Will Power written
all over it.
My fantasy picks for today are:
Power
Felix
Herta

Without penalty? Haha have you seen the spin outs this week? That’s like saying the British Open isn’t as penalizing because of its lack of water, sure you might not lose a ball in a pond but the whole damn thing is a hazard! Likewise COTA is a demanding track, especially without power steering

This track actually suits IndyCar perfectly from what I've seen so far. The surface is aging extremely well and the high-speed esses and sweepers with the '18 aero kit go together tremendously. Lots of different lines to take through the final sector. The cars just look like a handful to drive. Exceeding my expectations by a lot so far.

IMO, the 'problem' with most other races here is that F1 has too much downforce to put on a similar show (looks hella fast though) and the track is too clunky for anything like a touring car/GT/stock car.

"Clunky". That's the word I've been looking for. The last seven or eight turns are just too technical for fendered series. I didn't think much of IMSA's efforts. I don't see any way a NASCAR series would run the entire track; it would have to have at least one bypass added.

Not the raciest track in the world. Lmfao. Will Power is at the right venue to earn that extra $100k that's for sure.

You don’t think? Splits are really tight and they’ve been going at it, no reason to be super risky on Lap 10

Boy, they really do. I respect that level of difficulty, and will take it over pure blistering speed.

This is pretty good so far. I think Rossi could still have something for Power, and looks like Herta as well. I found myself briefly wondering if either were going to get within DRS range, oops. :D

Just saw a promo for WoO sprints at Perris Auto Speedway at the end of the month. I've already got my tickets but it's good to see some advertisement.

I got to see the USAC guys there once, great track.

Did they really just cut to commercial with Rossi right on Power? Yes, of course they did.

They need to cue up some Kenny Loggins with all this Danger Zone talk.

This race has been quite good overall, but this is what I dislike most about this series currently. It so often comes down to oddball timing of cautions turning the race upside down.

Power is right that they need to change the closing of the pits. There's just too much randomness in this series. At the same time, why exactly did Power and Rossi have to stretch it so long and hang themselves out to dry?

I'd love to see Herta get the dub. What a story

I really like this announcing crew. They've gotten comfortable together and provide good technical analysis and some good moments of humor.

"I see Paul Tracy on pretty much everyone in the field", haha.

Herta and O'Ward are the real deal.

Future is definately in good hands. They just continue to impress as they continue to grow. This is no sham or out of strategy, Herta and O'Ward have had pace all weekend.

COTA and teams delivered the goods today. Very entertaining race. Didn't expect
2 of my 3 picks to go out with in a couple laps of each other. Oh well, at least my
3rd pick won. Finished 8th out of 24. Veach had a long day at the office. Herta had
quote of the day - "I need a nap!".
