Are you more of a fan of racing in general or a particular driver?

Excuse me?

I like racing in general but hated seeing drivers like Mark Martin and Matt Kenseth (my all time favorites), Tony Stewart, Carl Edwards and Jeff Gordon retire. I also hate that JJ will be leaving at the end of this season.

I will still watch just as much this year and have some current favorites, namely Kez, Blaney, Bowyer, Truex, Matty D. and Almirola. I'll be interested in seeing how the newer drivers coming up from Xfinity will do this year.

I was born into a sports crazed family with tons roots in the Lehigh Valley (home of the Andrettis). There's also a Penske/Lehigh University connection. My grandfather watched Mario cut his teeth at the old Nazareth dirt track. From there the family got interested in Indycar/F1 and NASCAR. And when they got into it that meant 100%; aka going to races. The live experience/attending races has always been the draw.

Rusty and Mark Martin are the last drivers I was all in on as a fan. Since then i "root" for Truex, Bowyer and whoever else interests me that particular day.

I like to have a rooting interest. I remember jumping up and down screaming at the TV when DP lea dega for a bit.

I had forgotten when Elliott went to a chevy and wasn't sure if that was before or after the Dodge. I just remember being disappointed in it at the time. Back in the 80's about the only race I ever remember seeing on TV was the Daytona 500 and Talladega. In the 90's I was a teenager and didnt sit around inside the house for 3 or 4 hours to watch every race. I followed the sport and at school it's what we'd all talk about in shop class. I always thought of Martin as a Ford guy and remember the disappointment of him coming in second behind Earnhardt that year. I remember the Skoal Bandit race car as cool and remember when Harry Gant went on that tear winning 4 in a row. The only way I can explain picking some Chevy drivers but mostly not others is because of personality. It doesn't make sense I guess but they seem like people it would be cool to drink a beer with and BS and so it can be overlooked that they drive a GM.
A lot of Martin fans are only aware of his Roush years, or forget about his history before it (which in NASCAR is largely forgettable). Although Martin's failed first attempt in the Cup wasn't all his own fault - Reeder was underfunded and Stacy was spread out too thin with too many teams (and went broke leaving Martin (and others) without a ride). Martin couldn't get another Cup ride at the time due to a ****y attitude. What I like about Martin is that he didn't just stomp off and fade away like so many others - he went back to ASA and remade his reputation. He made a Ford a contender in ASA (it had been essentially an all-Chevy show for years), and he mended his fences in NASCAR. Some say that Martin is the best driver to never win a Cup championship, and I certainly won't argue against that.

No, but I don't don't listen to any podcasts. I noticed that he was a good and honest storyteller when interviewed on TV or in magazines, so I imagine that his podcast could be quite good.
