Misjudging Kyle Busch

I saw him hit the wall but I was at a track slot car racing last night and I only got to watch in between my races. I kind of figured that may have been the reason. For the record we were all wearing masks and staying 6 feet apart.:)
Are you running wing cars 1/24th?

One of the 88's late pit stops was excessively long and he lost a bunch of positions. TV mentioned it, but never went back to show what happened.

So Hirschman cleared him. Two peas in a pod I tell ya.

Actual props to KyBu for not throwing his spotter under the bus though.

I don't know how much it contributed to the incident, but Hirschman used a poor choice of words. There's quite a difference between there being a hole behind the 9 and being clear of the 9.

Quite a collection of Kyle Busch videos in this thread. In most of these many incidents, Kyle has never accepted any responsibility.

Bill Parcells, the famous NFL coach, has a favorite motto... "You are what your record says you are." This is certainly true in racing... regarding race wins *and* dirty driving.

When NASCAR was figuring all of the safe distancing rules and procedures...they forgot to add in a procedure for temper flaring discussions.

Man we had a track in my neighborhood so I bought a car and had to scrounge money for track time but it was a blast. They only lasted a year but it was fun while it lasted.
Raced HO for awhile too.

Actually I'm an idiot. He did use a poor choice of words, but as you said, he never cleared him.

This is definitely KyBu focused on the mirror and misjudging the slot.

This is definitely KyBu being incompetent/wreckless and effectively taking the win away from the #9 team as the events played out.
Fixed that for ya.

If this incident is talked out and ice cream is back on the menu, that #9 team is submissive.

I'm not justifying what he did at all. I'm still pissed. I assume the 9 bunch still is too

Ok look i am as a big a kyle busch fan as anyone but i dont think he would do that on accident. Hes too good a driver to make a rookie mistake like that. I think in the heat of the moment he was frustrated that his car wasnt good enough to win and took it out on chase. I bet he instantly regretted it too. So of course he is going to call it an accident what else is he gonna say? Chase owes him one i just hope it isnt in the playoffs

For me this is kind of strange. Of all Cup drivers, KDB is the last driver I want to win a race, including trucks and Xfinity. Maybe I am giving him too much credit, but it is hard for me to believe that he would intentionally wreck Chase at such a high speed at Darlington. If in fact he did, then what little respect I had for him is completely gone.

Apparently you have not seen the head on camera shot, he flat turned right into Chase with his front right wheel at chases full left rear quarter panel. It was straight up intentional.
If he did that on purpose it would have to rate as the clumsiest take-out ever performed by anybody.

Anywhere.

In my opinion, it still is. Malicious or incompetent, it was negligent either way.

Kevin LePage is still champion.
Just wanted to let you know that I intend to support the 9 on Sunday.

He should prolly just stay home.

I've been watching KDB wreck people on purpose for years

I admire the dual meaning of the thread title.

Chase says it was unfortunate to be on the receiving end of a rare mistake from Busch. As the discussion here shows, it's not that rare.

I think this is one of those instances in which the instant snap judgment is more accurate than all of the rationalizing after. Your eyes didn't decieve you.

Jeff Gordon's reaction in the moment was:

"Not sure what that was all about from Kyle Busch. Don't know if he misjudged trying to side draft Chase Elliott, but...definitely turned him."

If there had been a misjudgment, that would have been it: a failed side draft. @StandOnIt called attention to Busch's contact with Clint Bowyer earlier in the race. He got into Bowyer's left rear in the corner, then when he couldn't get past him on the low side, tried to loosen him up at the left rear quarter panel for another lap, including on the straight. There's nothing wrong with that, it's racing. But it didn't work, and he didn't make the pass. It's more reasonable to believe his reaction was to be more aggressive with Elliott and went too far than to believe he was trying to pull in behind him and missed by several feet.

He's been very successful in loosening up drivers who won't fight back in the lower series also. About as recent as you can get was what he did to Briscoe and it would have worked if they would have been running cup bodies instead of the tougher composites.

I would prefer that instead of Chase wrecking Kyle, that at some point in the near future that Kyle cuts Chase a HUGE break, especially if it is rather costly to Kyle. I chalk the whole thing up to a desperation move on Kyle's part that just didn't work, but at the end of the day you can't just look past the fact that Chase lost out on a 75% chance or better of winning a race and the 9 team got a car all torn up and Kyle paid zero penalty for his mistake. Kyle can afford to be a lot more giving to even the score than most drivers out there, but I have very little confidence that in the heat of the moment, the fact that he owes Chase in a big way will even cross his mind.

It would be 20 mimures worth of KDB talking about "wasted space"and so in so shouldn't be behind the wheel if something even remotely close happened to him.
The only thing I know 100% for sure right now is that I would love to see the 9-88-48-24 finish 1st 2nd 3rd and 4th in the 600...and KDB finish last. Normally I would put the 88 first but I feel bad for the 9 team getting screwed Wed night. I also feel bad for the 18 team minus KDB. :)

Chase's marketing team does a great job

I mean, eh? IMO that’s pretty bad. Woulda just preferred the photo of him telling Kyle he’s #1 with some quippy slogan.

I personally wouldn't want to walk around with a guy and his middle finger sticking up on my shirt, just comes off a little trashy imo. This is a clever take on the whole thing when you look at the details on the shirt. That hat is great.

Meh. People are generally too worried about themselves to care about others.

The hat is clever, but even the everyday Chase Elliott fan would have no idea.

The shirt looks like a flea market special.

I remember Matt Kenseth explaining a driver’s need to stand up for themself. Or risk losing respect in the garage. It was right after he dusted Joey at Martinsville.

Chase needs wall Kyle. Just like he did Hamlin. Or risk becoming like Kasey Kahne. The Gibbs team’s personal extension of the safer barrier.

For the record, I don’t believe Busch wrecked him intentionally. Still believe Chase needs to hit back. Kyle knows it’s coming. You could tell by the interview. Take your lumps son.
