Mine is getting pretty old, it's a Win 7 machine upgraded to 10. It's been around the block a few times so I started looking around a replacement. I have a bunch of irons in the fire and will be dependent on a reliable machine when this mess ends. I've had good luck with Dells and started looking at them.
Noticed some Dells, and other brands, no longer have the numeric key pad,,WAT? But you can buy a pad that plugs into a USB port..
No optical drive on some models, not low end but mid and higher end models. Seem nobody uses them anymore, you stream and store on the ''cloud''
The kicker, a DELL, 17''screen, all the bells and whistles. 16g ram,[I like to go fast!] 512 gb ssd [ I gots lotsa stuff]..delivery date July 20th, yes July 20th. WAT!

I loathe laptops in general.

If you buy one, get the extended warranty. You'll need it. Dell and HP/Compaq not as likely (but would rather have it than not), but Asus/Acer/Lenovo and any laptop that does not have a removable keyboard (some Dell and HP), you'll be glad you have it. Convertables, extended warranty IS A MUST.

This is because the cheaper and high-flex display cables are severely prone to chafing then shorting out the motherboard. Saw it a TON at the school district (over 25% of devices failed in 1.5 years, mostly student laptops - opening and closing 7 times a day times ~270 school days) and even where I am now, we've had a few fail that way.

Well it's here. I cancelled the order from Dell. You'd think Dell could afford to hire people who speak English. After mulling it over for a couple of weeks I found the same computer with a faster chip and better graphics card on Amazon for slightly less and it arrived in a week.
Cons: tactile feel of the keyboard is different, very sensitive, you barely have to touch the keys.
Why did they have to mess with IE 10 and bring out Edge?
Pros: 16 meg of ram and a ssd is blazingly fast!

Now comes the arduous task of transferring all of my ''stuff'' from the old 'puter.

IE is still there, yo just have to search for it

Edge is the 'new and improved' IE 10 from what I was told

If you haven't tried Mozilla Firefox for a web browser, download it and try it. It's all I use really, and love it.

Edge is much better, IMO. Honestly, it's smoother than Chrome for me.

I hated Firefox when I tried using it last year. Buggy and tons of problems loading sites that load just fine in Edge and Chrome.
