Bristol Dirt Race

I never thought about the possible dust etc, but this race could go multiple ways tbh. It could either be a one groove bore, or could be a demolition derby or somewhere in between. It should be fun to see though.

There won’t be a dust cloud. They don’t have the speed that sprint cars do tbh to cause that. Also from everything I’m hearing, this is a pretty good track as far as quality.

Also they’re working the track in well with so many events happening before that race

In 1966, the USAC Stock Car championship went to Norm Nelson, whose Plymouth never finished worse than fourth in any race that year. But one driver who did well that year, with good finishes both in races and in the points, was Billy Foster, here running this 1965 Dodge Coronet with Hemi power on the dirt mile at the Indiana State Fairgrounds. Billy Foster was a young guy from British Columbia in western Canada, who I believe cut his teeth on the same Canadian and Pacific Northwest circuit for short-track Supermodifieds that later produced Tom and Jerry Sneva. He was the first Canadian to qualify for the Indianapolis 500, in 1965. This photo may have been from practice or qualifying at the mile, probably a race called the State Fair Century, a 100-mile feature that was a standalone event, as USAC never ran Stock Cars and Championship cars together at the Indy fairgrounds. Billy is hauling it into the corner in turn three here. There's another view of this car that shows the quarter panel, which is lettered for his sponsor, Palmer Dodge. I'm not sure if that's the same Eldon Palmer, the Dodge dealer who drove the Challenger pace car in 1971, but I wouldn't be surprised if it was. Billy Foster eventually lost his life in a stock car at Riverside the following January in a practice run at the season-opening NASCAR race [editor's note: In a crash that some say prompted NASCAR to mandate window nets in its races.]. He was a very talented driver who did well at Indianapolis. ''

Im a bit concerned that Larson and the other dirt specialists will run away with this race. But I will watch regardless

It will be fun to see the girls getting down and dirty with the boys in Bristol baby.

The former Cup Series champion has also limited dirt track experience. Truex admitted the only times he’s run on dirt with two charity events in Missouri for Ken Schrader.

“Did that a few times in a Modified,” Truex said. “I grew up on four-wheelers and motorcycles. It’s going to be a learning curve for sure. I look at it as Bristol has been our worst track for the past couple of years. Why the heck not lay down dirt and see what we can do? I think it’s going to be fun. New challenge, something different.”

After watching some of the racing at Bristol this week, I have more confidence the track will not be a total crap hole with no passing. It's held up pretty good, even when they've had to race on it during the day. The super late models come in Friday and Saturday and it will be interesting to see how the track holds up to those high horsepower machines.

I'm watching Dirt Nationals and the entire Stadium is brown even up to the highest seats lol. Some pressure washing Company is gonna make bank

Yeah, the lower area is already a mess. Most of the seats sold are higher up. I don't know which will take longer - getting the dirt off the track surface or cleaning up the seats, infield, etc.

That sucks. Damn I hope they didn't use the same crew for the Sprint race they had last year or it is going to be a dust out.

You cant even tell the seats are aluminium but in fairness after a few races it looks like they are putting a ton of rubber down.

I think I am just as excited to watch the Trucks race as I am the Cup race. I do wish that in order to scratch that dirt itch, NASCAR raced at a real dirt track but here we are. I will be watching intently to see how this goes, pass or fail at least they tried something new for the schedule.

Hoping for a good Bristol truck race but Trucks at Knoxville will be as real as it gets.
